  1. A fun selection, Eva. I have, for the most part, stopped buying the US flag stamps, as I find the other designs more interesting. Apparently there is a law that there must always be stamps available with the flag on them.

    1. Canada doesn't have such a law, but we sure do stick our flag on an awful lot of stamps!

    2. @FinnBadger, that explains why there are always so many flags on the letters form the USA...

I don't like specially to put the flag on the letters. In Spain we associate the "flag obsession" with the USA and the UK. But yes, a lot of Spaniards suffer from that, too... :/

    3. @VioletSky, but I haven't received so many Canadian flags, even if I'm showing here some... But anyway, some flag designs are nice, in my opinion.

    4. I should ask for a flag stamp, next time... In the US, I mean.

    5. So you like them? Or do you want to check if that law exist actually?

    6. I should check out the law, indeed! 😂

    7. In fact, I'm planning to buy a real flag for the 4th of July. As you said, I associate it with American culture and I don't want to miss anything related to it!

  2. The French one is fun (and cute)!
And I've always thought the (first) Italian one was an inspired design.
The Finnish one always look backwards to me since usually the pole is on the left with the flag waving to the right.

  3. I'm rather fond of the Canadian flag stamps with the scenery although wish they had made them bigger.

    1. I think you are right. They look big on the picture, but very small on the envelopes.

    2. yes, they are small stamps. and sometimes the flag dominates too much over the scene.

  4. I love trees so the Canadian flag always makes me smile. And oh, the Italian flag as a condensation trail for the envelope, I love that one! I've received it several times but I forgot it for today's post, so thank you for sharing!

Concerning the 'place' of the flag in our country, flags on Dutch stamps are very rare. Similar to Spain I think also in the Netherlands many people associate flag adoration with too much nationalism, and daily greeting the flag - as is usance in some countries - a bit weird habit.
I think many Dutch don't mind our flag that much (and in soccer matches we prefer orange to the red-white-blue :-) ). Sometimes on television news you can see angry people burning an other country's flag, and while other nations would be offended, I think in case of the Dutch flag many Dutch will only furrow their brow for a second, then shrug their shoulders and continue what they were doing.

    1. By the way, the Dutch flag stamp isn't officially issued by Dutch PostNL, but was a personalized stamp issued by a private person! By the nature- and postcrossing photographer from www.natuurlijkefoto.nl.

    2. I also think the Canadian flag is a great design.

And yes, it used to be in Spain like you describe for the Netherlands. But I'm afraid that thinks are changing now... :/

  5. I doubt that there would be much of a market for stamps with the EU flag in the UK right now.
