The Book Loft

Folded postcard sent by Phillip (the USA), showing a library bookstore of Columbus (Ohio, USA). I really love the whimsical photography and the fact that the city is also printed on the envelope.

The stamps used also depict black and white photographies, and they belong to two different series:

I add this post to Sunday Stamps-II. The theme today is Photographs.

  1. I wondered if you might show this today - at least you have a few extra photographs compared to my post.

    1. And maybe I didn't explain very well in the note, The Book Loft is an independent bookstore.

    2. Actually I had more stamps, but I wished to show this because I love them :) It didn't occured to me that you might choose the same!

Oh, and you explained it well. It is just my English! In Catalan, llibreria means 'bookstore', so library is a false friend... I just mixed both words :|

    3. I like your expression, 'false friend'! Your English is excellent, to the point where I thought I must have made the mistake, and not you :)

    4. As Heleen wrote, it is a normal expression on Grammar books. But I like it: wicked words that want you to make mistakes... :)

    5. "Wicked words that want you to make mistakes", I love it! Can I borrow your explanation for my lessons?

    6. Of course you can. Because... aren't they wicked? ;)

    7. I need you to know this "false friend": "Is there a better language false friend going than the English-German one where the English word GIFT means the German word POISON?" (Read here)

  2. Beautiful stamp serie!

And here we name same words with total different meaning in different languages 'false friends' ('valse vrienden'), too :-) I love them, because often they are surprising and/or funny.
I knew the Spanish 'librería' for bookstore, too. What is the name for library in Catalan, something like 'bibliotheek'? (= library in Dutch, bookstore we just translate literally, 'boekwinkel').

    1. Voilà, tua as eu de la chance!
L'auteur de la photo ne vient pas indiqué sur la carte, mais au site web (MetroscopeCollection) il dit que le photographe est Jason Wilson, inconnu pour moi jusqu'à ce moment.
