Silvery Letter

I have recently received this silvery letter from Laura (the UK). I thought it could be a good choice for this Sunday Stamps, which theme is Flowers.

Usually the stamps with flowers are not among my favourites, but I should recognize this one dedicated to the Gentiana acaulis is really beautiful.

I had previously received one of the same set, with tulips (sort of my favourite flower):

It is written in the stamp: "Tulipa sp. Tulipa is the Latinised version of the Ottoman Turkish tülbend meaning turban. A fully opened tulip was thought to resemble a turban (fig.1)."

Oh, and I found another I have got months ago!

It shows the Passiflora sp. I'm not able to read all the words properly (sorry I didn't take a better picture!), but it tells how 18th century missionaries discovered this flower and considered its parts tells us about the Crucifixion of Christ story.

Update:

    1. Maybe now it's difficult, because they were issued some years ago.

  3. I missed these two. I'm cross because our passion flower succumbed to the frost two years ago, its replacement has not flowered yet. I guess you can tell which is my favourite.

    1. The labels are nice. I think my friend had a good idea by sending the labels along with the stamps.

  5. What a lovely series. Tulips are among my top 3 favourite flowers (though not the basic red and yellow varieties we see in the stores - there are so many attractive versions)

  7. Beautiful, and like all the others from the UK, I've not seen them before... I think we go around with our eyes closed. They're from 2004, I believe, after some hasty googling.

    1. Thanks! I've been receiving these in the last years, so I'm not sure about the date of issue. I think my friend bought a bunch of them (and I'm grateful for that, of course!).
