Postmarks and Postmarks and...

This is an envelope I sent to Heleen (the Netherlands).

Usually people don't see any more the letters they have sent. But sometimes the recipients publish them, as Heleen did, so the sender and the letter can meet again. This fact raises always strange feelings, don't you think so? In this case, I wonder by the letter arrived so wrinkled, and if the post officers really had to put so many postmarks... Sometimes I think they consider letters as enemies!

  1. Enemies? Friends! I love stamps, so I was very happy to see so many cancellation stamps, which by their round shape even suit perfectly with the round Airmail sticker! I thought the postal workers have done their utmost to fulwil my stamps-wish :-)

Well, the wrinkling, er, I don't know what caused that. But at least the content has remained unharmed!

Thank you again for your mail!!

    2. I think the wrinkling was caused by the envelope trying to wriggle out of their hands as they stamped it to death...

    3. This is what I thought... But luckily the letter managed to escape and finally reached Heleen's mailbox.

  2. I thought it was just in Portugal :)))

I have some postcards with stamps in the front of the card! I guess some people really don't love their job, so they do it without any care.

    1. But we must consider that sometimes this job is made by automatic machines...

  3. Here in England the Royal Mail seems to have stopped cancelling stamps — envelopes arrive here frequently with no postmarks and no dates, looking just as they did when they were posted. I feel disappointed to receive unmarked mail like this.

    1. Oh, you're right. I have received a lot of letters from the UK without postmarks nor dates. Sometimes I give back the stamps to my friends, so they can reuse them. But they have a way to stop me for doing that: http://mailadventures.blogspot.com/2013/07/mail-adventures-56in-343.html

I find this very ugly, so I guess it's better that they put so many postmarks... At least we know that the letter has travelled!

      Thanks for visiting the blog.

    2. Jo says she saw the post master in the post office cancel a parcel of hers that way recently. I now put all my cards together in a plastic envelope and ask the postmaster to hand stamp them. This also stops them being put through the machinery that often scratches the surface off the postcard. I hope it works.
