The first stamp with the image of the king Juan Carlos I of Spain was issued on December 29, 1979. The last are those above, issued on January 1, 2013 (data from here).
Yesterday, when I heard that the king of Spain abdicated the throne in favour of his son, my first thought was: "When are they going to issue stamps with the new king?". And my second thought: "Wow, I have really a snail mail mind!".
I was just looking up the Spanish royal family tree (in John Van Der Kiste's book, 'A divided Kingdom') - to see his (King Juan Carlos) relationship to King Alfonso and Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg (granddaughter of Queen Victoria) - grandson.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read that book yet, it's on the 'to read' pile. :)
Maybe it's the right moment...
DeleteI was/am curious to see the new stamps, too :-)
ReplyDeleteHere we have new stamps (due to the new king, after queen Beatrix has abdicated, last year), however I think these stamps far from beautiful... (did I send you one already?)
Yes, I have received at least one of them :)
