Mushrooms on Stamps

I was not sure about my participation in Sunday Stamps - II , because I have received only one stamp about today's theme: Mushrooms, fungi. It was issued on January 20, 1998 and belongs to a set of endangered species. The name of Devil's bolete or Boletus satanas is quite intriguing. Certainly it doesn't encourage to taste it!

I am not a serious stamp collector. So big collections always impress me, and especially if they are so specific. I discovered the blog Mushrooms on Stamps some time ago and I became an instant follower. I am truly fascinated by the popularity of this topic on stamps worldwide.

  1. I would never have thought about a mushroom being on an endangered list.

    1. Certainly not usual; it is the only one in UK series, I think.

  3. Even if you find one it sounds like it should be avoided although it looks attractive on the stamp.

    1. I agree that it looks beautiful as a stamp,but... Edible? Hum...

  4. I like this simple stamp design, although I would have placed the mushroom picture a bit more to the left, to have a more balanced composition (now both mushrooms form a 'flat' triangle with the picture of the Queen).

Concerning edibility, I love fried champignons and this one looks much like a champignon... (but I agree with you: I won't dare to try to eat it :-) )

I did not realize that mushrooms on stamps were so popular either! I looked on EBay and I see that many of them are quite valuable!

    1. Yes, it seems that people prefer to collect stamps about mushrooms to eat them! ;)

  6. When I was looking for flowers on stamps, I discovered my local dealer at the stamp fair had a whole binder of just mushrooms!

    1. I wonder why so many people like mushrooms on stamps over other topics.

  7. It's amazing to me that anyone would devote a whole collection to mushrooms on stamps, but then other people think my collection of postcards is amazing too. :)
