Teddy Bears on Stamps

From Japan

I have received this teddy-bear shaped stamp three weeks ago. It gave me the idea to publish stamps with teddy bears for this week's Sunday Stamps II: Toys or games.

From Canada

This stamp, however, belongs to a set issued on May 11, 2012, dedicated to Franklin the Turtle.

From Germany

Issued on May 6, 2010, as EUROPA stamp. The topic that year was Children's stories.

From the Netherlands

I love Dick Bruna illustrations. This stamp was issued in a 6-stamps set on November 8, 2005, in order to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Nijntje or Miffy. I have received the whole set, on different letters. I find especially funny the little rabbit holding a teddy bear...

From Thailand

This stamp was issued on February 7, 2012, for Valentine's Day. I like the idea of the teddy bear as "symbol of love", as the stamp says. The set of four stamps included another teddy bear with the heart-shaped lock that this key opens.

From the United Kingdom

And finally, three famous British teddy bears: Andy Pandy, Paddington (actually, he is from Peru! - See here the whole set), and Rupert.

  2. Excellent idea for today - and I have seem the last three bears on tv.

  3. Forgot to add that I think the bear-shaped stamp is amazing. The perforations remind me of a fuzzy teddy bear.

  4. Great collection!
Usually I don't like (passive*) teddy bears that much (however I like clever autonomous bears like Paddington and Rupert - who we name 'Bruintje Beer', little-brown bear, in Dutch), but this gathering on stamps is wonderful!

    1. Thanks! As I wrote somewhere, I also prefer teddy bears on paper than in real (So I usually take pictures of them).

  5. Great collection; there is one from Sweden as well that I have seen. Rupert was the first fictional bear I remember from my childhood - I won't say how many years ago.

    1. Thanks, Bob.I didn't knew these characters as a child, but I'm happy that I've "discovered" them now.

  6. Franklin looks cute with his little hat. I'm a Miffy fan so I love that one. I found some Miffy alphabet postcards when on holiday once and always regret not splurging on the full set.

    1. Miffy is lovely, isn't she? I'm also a Miffy fan. But, as the rest of characters, I didn't know this character when I was a child: I'm enjoying them now!
