George Town Street Art & Trains

I had seen this amazing mural sometimes on the net, by I did not know where it belonged to. Until Jobbo (Malaysia) sent this postcard.

It is Little Children on a Bicycle Mural, painted by Ernest Zacharevic for the George Town Festival 2012. George Town, the capital and largest city in Penang, was listed as UNESCO WHS in 2008. In the recent years, the sender says, has become famous for its street art, which has turned the town into "something of a regional mecca for hipsters" (the sender wrote).

See the stamp on the back, issued in December 2015:

That reminds me that I had received another wonderful train on a postcard, sent by Eutrapèlia (the USA). It is an ad postcard from a restaurant. My friend altered it in order to make clear that she went for a Sunday brunch. I wonder if there were also some hipsters there...

  1. The stamp would have worked well for Sunday Stamps yesterday. Your post made me wonder if there are hipsters in other countries?

    1. That's true, I didn't think of this stamps as "green", but maybe I could add the link.

That sentence about hipster, write on the postcards, also made me think. I would never associate Malaysia with hipsters, but... why not? As for Spain, hipsters are "a plague". I think they are becoming already old-fashioned (which is he nightmare of a hipster, I presume). You can spot them in Morocco too; I think this is an urbane issue, but even in a little city like Tetouan, there are.

    2. Glad to hear that hipsters are a plague everywhere, and not just here :)

  2. I wasn't aware of any hipster there. It was a few hours before the Superbowl. Everybody was in an expectation mood, but this was a quite place to talk and eat!
