The
Great Fire of London was a major blaze that swept through the central parts of the city of London from Sunday, 2 September to Wednesday, 5 September 1666. It consumed 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, St Paul's Cathedral, and most of the buildings of the City authorities. It is estimated to have destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's 80,000 inhabitants at that moment.
Even if the subject is terribly tragic, I like this set of five stamps. I have received two of them, and they look still better in person.
I must get this set - it's great.
ReplyDeleteThe set is striking. Thanks for showing these.
ReplyDeleteMy first knowledge of the London Fire was when I climbed the Monument by Sir Christopher Wren. It was unimaginable for me that such catastrophe happened on a city like London.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. The more I look at the stamps, the more I think this is a very good design.
ReplyDeleteIt's an inventive way to tell a story
