Love in the 19th Century

Postcard sent by Laura (the UK) and arrived yesterday. Just in time for this week's theme in Postcards for the Weekend, i. e., Love.

This is a scene of Pride and Prejudice (1813), by the favourite author Jane Austen (My album here). A rather old-fashioned conception of love, for our contemporary standards...

    1. Thanks, John! "Old-fashioned" doesn't mean uninteresting, of course :D

  2. Such a coincidence that you received this card just in time!
I wonder which card you would have chosen if Laura hadn't sent this one - but for that we will wait for next year's theme :-)

  3. How lovely! I wish these gestures of romance of love can remain in fashion and won't completely be overcome by contemporary standards. Thanks for sharing Eva!

  4. That is a fabulous card! I love it. Jane Austen is my favourite author so I am extremely jealous of your card....but it is perfect for the theme this week!

So very glad that you posted it!

    1. It is difficult to think "romantic book"and no to think of Jane Austen, isn't it?

  6. For a contemporary rendering of Pride and Prejudice, I can recommend Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld. Very tongue-in-cheek! Mr Darcy there is a prestigious surgeon and Liz Bennett works in journalism...
