Special stamp depicting Portrait of Fritza Riedler(1906) by Gustav Klimt, issued on 14 July 2012, commemorating the 150th birthday of the artist. Design by Adolf Tuma.
The original work (Oil on canvas, 152 x 134 cm) is located in the Belvedere Palace in Vienna and is part of the world's largest collection of Klimt paintings.
SUch a nice subject for today's theme! I think other works by Klimt more beautiful, however it always is nice when an artist and/or a painting is honoured by a mini-painting a stamp is :-)
Yay! I was looking for one of my Klimt stamps, but they all turned out to be Mucha, so I'm glad you had one.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only one I have (I think). I don't receive often mail from Austria.
DeleteI imagine Klimt is a popular subject for Austria Post, they translate well into stamps.
ReplyDeleteYes, I discovered they have some, when looking information about this issue.

I guess they have issued all the Klimt's works on stamps by now ;)
DeleteIt is very pretty (and big) in person.
Klimt is a favorite of mine - but I have not seem his work on stamps.
ReplyDeleteSeems that his works appear from time to time on Austrian stamps, which I don't receive often, alas.
