Sunday Stamps | Z(odiac)

We have reached the Z in Sunday Stamps-II (although not me, because I didn't covered every letter of the alphabet...).

I have chosen (Western) Zodiac for today. It is not a favourite topic, but I should recognise that it produces some beautiful stamps...

From Hungary, a stamp issued on 3 January 2005 as a set of, obviously, 12 stamps. You can see here the complete set.

And, from Taiwan, three stamps issued on 2001. They were released on groups of three stamps along the year, under the name Signs of the Western Zodiac.

  1. Beautiful stamps indeed!

I was thinking of zodiac, too, but realized that in Dutch I only use the word in relation to zodiac stamps, in general we say 'sterrenbeeld' ('stars image') or 'dierenriem' ('animals belt', despite of thevfact that the aquarius, gemini and virgo are humans - well maybe animals, too :-) ).

    1. Thanks, Heleen. I was thinking of "zoo", today, but I only had two stamps to show, so...

    2. 'Zoo' was on my mind, too, but the usual Dutch name is dierentuin- so I am happy that you can enjoy 'zee' :-)

    1. Are you? As I wrote, it isn't a favourite theme for me. But I have received some great zodiac stamps, like these.

  3. The Hungarian stamps are like pages from a Book of Hours, beautifully done. I always like zodiac stamps that show the constellations but what a lot of other things are going on in those Taiwan stamps, the perforated circle being just one of them.

    1. I thought the same at first sight. Then I realised they were zodiacal signs. But, actually, I ignore where the illustrations came from.

  4. I was seriously considering Zodiac stamps too, though the ones from the Lunar New Year series. I have now come to the realization that I do not have that many stamps related to the Western zodiac... it is almost always something related to the Chinese one..

    1. I guess there are more stamps dedicated to the Chinese zodiac, because it is linked to the New Year celebrations, isn't it?
