October 1969 saw the birth of Jersey's independent Postal Administration and inauguration by the Universal Postal Union of UPU Day. In recognition of both events, this thenth anniversary card shows the UPU emblem and that of the Jersey Post Office against the latter's modern headquarters at Mont Millais, St Helier, home of the famous Jersey Stamps.
Actually, I received this maxicard by snail mail, but from the UK. I hardly receive mail from Jersey. Once I had a penpal from there, but she asked me for the used stamps for her collection, so I keep very few from that country.
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, letter J.
A fun way to get a J for Sunday Stamps.
ReplyDeleteNot a lot of mail from Jersey, as I wrote.
DeleteI've heard of Guernsey, but never of Jersey- and they're just 43 km apart! Thanks to this letter J theme of Sunday Stamps, I finally learnt of Jersey
ReplyDeleteAnd I always thought that it was the contrary, and Jersey was more famous around the world!
DeleteA beautiful maxicard, and I am fascinated by the nice postmarks: who are these people?
ReplyDeleteDo you mean the dancing people? That is the UPU (=Universal Postal Union) emblem. I think the five people represent the five continents.
DeleteI always like pictures of post offices. I've always thought of the people on the UPU emblem as flying but now you have said dancing I realise that is what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteIt's also nice to think they are flying...
DeleteI don't remember seeing the UPU emblem before.
ReplyDeleteI bet that know you see it everywhere... :)
