Sunday Stamps | Between Land and Sea

Today's theme in Sunday Stamps is Land and Sea. That makes me think of... lighthouses, of course!

I'm showing today some lighthouses sheets that I have got by snail mail, but inside envelopes. So, they remain mint.

Nieuwe Sluis is a lighthouse located near Breskens, a harbour town in the province of Zeeland, in the south-western Netherlands. It is the oldest remaining cast-iron lighthouse in the Netherlands. It was built in 1867 and became a monument in 1982. Since 2010 it no longer serves a nautical purpose and in October 2011 the light went out permanently.

The minisheet was issued on 27 April 2010. Have you noticed the high face value?

Argentinian minisheet issued on 18 March 2006, featuring four lighthouses:
-Primero de Mayo (in the Antarctica);
-Año Nuevo (1902);
-El Rincón (1925);
-Recalada a Bahía Blance (1906)

And a stamp booklet entitle Lighthouses of the Adriatic and of the Danube, issued by a country not longer existing: Yugoslavia. Most of these lighthouses are in Croatia nowadays.

  1. Oh, my heart is all a flutter seeing all these lighthouses!
    The Yugoslavian ones are especially interesting as they seem to blend into the landscape.

  2. The Dutch lighthouse has had a very changeable life. The sheet design is fascinating.
    I've never thought of the antarctic and lighthouses before, the wonder of stamps.

  3. The perfect theme for you! The skies on the Yugoslavian stamps are beautiful. I do appreciate the graphic design of the Dutch stamp - although clearly at 7 euro it is intended to make the post office money as a collectible :)

    1. It is, of course! :D

      The 7€ stamp was a present from Heleen, very much appreciated.

    2. The 7 euro stamp was meant to use for registered mail (and collectible, as most people who want to register mail get a freshly printed bar code sticker instead of a stamp :-) ).
      By the way, registered mail hasn't increased that much (relatively seen): in 2020 it costs 8.80 euro, while postage for a postcard or letter within NL has more than doubled (from 0.44 in 2010 to 0.91 in 2020) and also international has increased (within Europe was 0.77, outside 0.95 in 2010, now both cost 1.50).

      A beautiful collection, Eva, and I am surprised to learn that there also are lighthouses at riversides (Danube)!

    3. I am not sure that you can use stamps on registered mail here. Probably you can... if you beg to the post office workers.

      Some lighthouses I have got from the USA are placed in lakes.

  4. Great lighthouses and of different designs. It's difficult for me to say which I like best.
