On Postal History

Envelope sent by John (the UK). As usual, full of fun and interesting details.

These stamps were issued on 22 August 1979. They depict some interesting moments of postal history in Great Britain:
  • Sir Rowland Hill, 1795-1879
  • General Post, c 1839
  • London Post, c 1839
  • Uniform Postage, 1840
The British Postman for 1 penny

Let me add this French postbox sent by Fabienne. From the time when they emptied the post boxes several times a day.

  1. These old cast iron post boxes are the best. They have such style to them.
That guy in the general post stamp is quite the dandy!

    1. I would be amazed if the mail carrier arrived dressed like him!

  2. I can remember when our postboxes in the UK were emptied two, three or four times a day and a little number on the doorplate showed you which was the next collection. I can also remember when we had two deliveries a day. If 'it' didn't arrive in the morning post we would shrug and say "It might be in the afternoon post."
