This stamp was issued in 2021 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the building of the Bluenose, the most recognized sailing vessel in Canadian history. This schooner was built in 1921 in Nova Scotia, Canada, and become a provincial icon for Nova Scotia and an important symbol in the 1930s, serving as a working vessel until she was wrecked in 1946. The name Bluenose originated as a nickname for Nova Scotians from as early as the late 18th century.

Beautiful setenant stamps! I also love the combintation with the map-background and the postmark. (That is: the round postmark. The matrix print postmark may be a harbringer of matrix stamps..).
ReplyDeleteAnd a nice 3D effect when you enlarge the photo and look at the teeth on bottom of the stamp. At first sight I was confused, thought the stamp was 'deeper', to the back, than the map :-)
By the way, the word 'schooner' seems to be originating from Dutch, as we name these vessels 'schoener'.
A lot of nautical words come from Dutch, I think :)
