Thursday Postcard Hunt | Young Animal

Thursday Postcard Hunt
March theme: ANIMALS
-----------------------------------------------

Eduard (Russia) sent it by mail, but this is not a conventional postcard, and I am not even sure Чебурашка is a conventional animal (A bear cub? A hare with large ears? A monkey?). It was created by writer Eduard Uspensky in 1966 (I hope it does not mean he is not young any more!) as one of the main characters in the book Gena the Crocodile and His Friends and its sequels.

There are two versions: on the stamp, as he appeared in the cartoon Crocodile Gena in 1969, created with the direct participation of the film's production designer, Leonid Shvartsman. On the cardboard, as it was reimagined for the 2023 film.

And this is the first post I had prepared for today... But you know already this illustration from Phillip's post!

At least one young animal on this postcard sent by Heleen (the Netherlands), and drawn by herself. The same illustration on the stamp.

  1. You're right, it is hard to decide what animal it is, particularly with the very human-looking teeth :) Maybe a monkey? Love the little crocodile, and always fun to see Heleen's artwork again.

    1. It must be the only one of its species :)

    2. Hmmm, then how did it get here? Maybe it arrived from space!

    1. It is a great drawing, as Heleen's always are.

  3. Curious creature. It has found the right place for oranges if it has travelled from space.

  4. He does have a young looking face. Maybe he will grow into those large ears?!

  5. Not sure about that first and those ears! I like the solution to getting the mail in the box!
