Thursday Postcard Hunt | The Moomin Game

Today's theme in Thursday Postcard Hunt is Maps. At first sight, I though this postcard was a map of Mumminworld. But it belongs to the first game based on the Moomin books: a boardgame released in 1957, with both the Finnish name Muumipeli and the Swedish name Muminspelet on the box, both translating to 'The Moomin Game'. One of the most notable things about this particular Moomin game is that it is the only one that was actually designed by the creator of the Moomin characters herself, the  artist and author Tove Jansson, alongside her brother Lars “Lasse” Jansson.

Anyway...it is a map! Sent by Micu (Hungary).

    1. I only learnt about Moomins thanks to Postcrossing. When I started as a postcrosser, there where a lot of Finnish people on the site. But I have never seen the game.

  2. My introduction to Moomins was through Postcrossing as well. Now I want to learn more about this game. The sea monsters look so friendly and playful. I've had fun looking through where these moomins lived in the 1950s!

  3. That's a fun map. I've not seen Moomins other than online, and noticed so many Postcrossers want them. Not something I can just go pick up in the stores around here!

  4. In a dream world I'd like the game to come with little moominland characters. Pretty card.
