The theme for this week in
Viridian's Postcard Blog Sunday Stamps is
Zodiacal and zodiac signs stamps. I have published sometimes stamps about Chinese zodiac (for instance
here or
here). I though I hadn't received stamps about Western zodiac, but then I remembered these:
|
From Ukraine |
Issued in 2008. The whole series
here.
|
From Sri Lanka |
This series was issued in 2007. I have got just this stamp on a postcard. You can see
here the complete series (bottom of the page).
I am very curious to see yours!
The Ukranian stamps seem a little unusual to say the least, I'm not sure about Aquarius being represented by someone with their trousers down! Would that possibly offend an Aquarian? I don't know ;) ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope it won't offend anyone! :)
DeleteI love your Ukranian stamps :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :D
DeleteI must say that I think the Ukrainian image of the Aquarius a little weird and indeed offending. In Dutch the 'Aquarius' is called 'Waterman', which doesn't mean that they have to produce the water :-) . And I must say that I prefer the Aquarius with bottles or amphoras full of clear, clean water :-)
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, it's of course great to have our own signs on stamps, too :-)
I never thought of this stamp as offending until Lisa and you suggested that... Maybe because I have hardly interest in Astrology matters. I just was looking for a excuse to show these Ukranian stamps. I find these illustrations funny, I like this childish style.
DeleteI must confess that I only raised my eyebrows when I saw this little Waterman doing this. And I began to think it offending (being an Aquarian who's never able to produce water in that way, and then I began to think of my preference for clear water and so on) from the moment that I read Lisa making this suggestion :-)
DeleteI agree, these stamps are nice, fine illustrations. I love the fishy and cancer one, and I must confess, too, that I like (and feel connected to) the Aquarius' friendly smile :-)
In my teens I read about astrology, and I thought it very interesting matter then. And I cherish the characteristics, contributed to my (sun and moon (an other one!)) zodiac signs.
But then I suddenly realised that all characterics - also from other signs - apply to all people!
After my teens I didn't read about it anymore, and I can put it in perspective. However still I think it a nice idea to be both a 'pretty mad' person and a genius, and original, creative and so on - characterisics attributed to 'my' sun sign (for what it's worht) :-)
The Ukrainian stamps are so cute. I must admit I puzzled over the Aquarius sign at first, but now I can see the Ukrainian sense of humour and just think its funny, but then I'm not an Aquarian:-)
ReplyDelete:D
DeleteI need to hear the opinion of an Aquarian (with sense of humour too, please!).
I would never have thought the Ukrainian stamps were showing signs of the zodiac until you told me. :) I think they are fun!
ReplyDeleteI also didn't see at first sight. Then I realised the theme. In the links posted by Heleen you can see the complete series.
DeleteI am coming late to the commentary. I thought the Ukrainian stamps a little odd, Scorpio too.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thank you for participating!
You're welcome anyway.
Deletei too havent realised this series was of zodiac for quite a while, but i like different interpretations, even though a bit cheeky :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I also find them cheeky... But funny!
