  1. That's great - a lot of yellow, and quite a bit of red. I wonder how the colors got started in each country?

    1. I always associate post with yellow because is the colour in Spain and Morocco (and, as you said, a lot of countries). It's a surprise when I travel to another country and find mailboxes in other colours!

Anyway, I would like to find out more about why these colours. I know that in the beginning mailboxes were green in the UK. Then they changed to red in order to make them more able to be seen in the countryside.

  2. Wonderful picture, great collection!

In the Netherlands we used to have red ones, but when the mail company's owners changed from PTT and TPG into TNT (and laterinto PostNL), the mailboxes became orange.

  4. How interesting! Looks like going from one country to another it'd be hard to tell what is a mail box. And they are so different than here in the United States! I especially found interesting how some of them have a trumpet on them. I'd seen that on toys like Legos and thought it was just made up (we have a eagle), but now I see it came from somewhere!

    1. Sometimes it is difficult, especially where they aren't yellow! :D

The post horn was the instrument used to signal the arrival or departure of a post rider or mail coach. For this reason is still used as the logo of post services in many countries.
