One thing that I love of postcards, besides the surprise and the warm words than come along, is how much can you learn from them...
The first sustained powered flight heavier-than-air aircraft were made here by Wilbur and Orville Wright on December 17, 1903. This postcard sent by Bryon (the USA) features a 60-foot granite monument is perched atop 90-foot tall Kill Devil Hill commemorating the achievement of these two visionaries.
The first post of the A to Z Challenge on this blog had to be dedicated to people who love (mail) adventures, of course!

I love postcards and used to send them while on vacation. Unfortunately the trend has almost vanished with the age of the internet! Good luck with the challenge!

DeleteI don't receive many now, but used to as a child/teen. Still send some off to family back home while vacationing. The whole handwritten letter scene has changed now...

there is now an app (in Australia) where you can use you own picture, add a message, and a post office near your destination will print it and send it to the recipient. I don't know whether I like the efficiency, or wether the fact it doesn't travel across borders makes it less romantic!
ReplyDeleteYes, it also exists in Spain. However, I never tried. A postcard with a personal picture would be nice, but I think that handwriting (your own) feels more personal. And romantic, as you wrote.

Letters have no reason to envy postcards! I'm more a letter writer, too. But I do enjoy sending postcards, especially when travelling, and receiving them. Who doesn't like get postcards?

A postcard is a treasure that screams 'adventure'. I have loved receiving them and sending them too...though people these days think differently and prefer using electronic mail, but it can never replace the thrill of holding that little personalised card in your hand, can it?

DeleteI haven't received a postcard in many years ... like most, I get my post via the Internet now. But I used to love looking at the photos on the postcard and wondering where on the map this came from.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is funny to find out more about the place it comes from, the stamp... For that reason I wrote that I learn a lot from postcards. Also some teachers use them at school.

DeletePostcards are a fun way to learn things. Did you know that day of the Wright brothers' first flight they flew 4 times? The first flight lasted 12 seconds, but the last one lasted 59 seconds! I'm looking forward to your next 25 posts!

DeleteYes, I love receiving and sending postcards! In fact whenever I travel, I'll buy postcards ready to send out! The most surprising postcard I've received was when my friend traveled to Antartica and sent me one! It took a while to arrive but when it did I was delighted!
