Do you remember Naomi's challenge, the Thousand Postcard Project?
Last week one of her vintage 1000 postcards, the number 171, landed in my mailbox. So she is in the way, just like... 800 to be sent. I wonder if she is going to receive 1000 postcards back.
Mine shows the new office of the Bank of West Memphis, Arkansas.
Come and see why we're called "Friendliest Bank in Town" |
You cannot say it is not original... Or do you receive often postcards of banks? Which is the most original piece of mail that you have received/would like to receive?
That's really unusual, never seen a bank on a postcard before! What I would like to receive would be a poetry postcard - honouring or commemorating a poet on their birthday or death anniversary for example. Or just as a 'famous people who lived in XYZ town' by the place they worked/lived at...never seen one of those either..

These are nice ideas for postcards. I have received a few postcards with authors, and I like them very much. And also, for the second, take a look at these postcards: the first one is normal people from a country (I love this one!), and the second one, famous presidents from a region.
DeleteThanks for you visit and your ideas!
Wow, those are really interesting PC's! Thanks for sharing! I have seen the 'doors' concept as a poster, but not a postcard, very colourful and lovely.
DeleteWhy would a bank even want to be on a postcard? I always love bright colourful postcards with beautiful scenery so a bank isn't quite what I have in mind as one I'd choose while I was on holidays somewhere :)

The postcards that Naomi is sending for her Thousand Postcard Project are vintage, and quite original. I think nowadays no back is making publicity through postcards. But it is also interesting to see how things have changed.
DeleteI think I wouldn't choose this one while I was in holidays. But maybe I would, if I was working there, or I had a HUGE amount of money in this bank ;-)
Lovely theme Eva, unique and novel for me. We don't have much of the postcards culture here in India, but would love to get it started. I am already listing down what all places I would love to see on those in my mind.

I've got some mail from India (like this and this). Beautiful places make beautiful postcards!
DeleteThat's a fascinating postcard. Great theme too. Will be checking back! x
ReplyDeleteThanks for you kind words, Natalie. I hope you enjoy the following postcards as well.
DeleteGetting fun snail mail from friends or family is rare these days. There was a time when I received frequent stacks of letters in my mail box through pen palling but several years ago I quit, keeping just a handful of my longest standing pals. Now, we only touch base once a year. I miss the regular flow of fun mail a bit but that's a chapter closed. I haven't gotten a postcard in many years. Somewhere in the house there is a small collection of vintage postcards my FIL passed down to our son from the mid-40s. Those are pretty neat! There could even be a bank postcard in the lot. I'll have to look for them to see now. :) Interesting post series. Thanks for sharing and happy A2Zing!
ReplyDeleteI invite you to stop by for more Art Sketching Through the Alphabet for today’s featured letter “B” (boys) and a side of Mewsic with Curious as a Cathy!
Those vintage postcards would be interesting to see... Thanks for coming!
DeleteThis is a rare one. What you do sounds interesting. A great way to remember the snail mail times when virtual reality is rapidly taking over.
ReplyDeleteMy everyday banters in my tin(y)sel town
I agree with you: snail mail is a relaxing way of communicating.
DeleteProving that postcards are fun even when they're not all hula dancers and flowers... :-)
ReplyDeleteI think it is difficult not to find some fun in every postcard. I must confess that I have received some really boring pieces of mail, maybe four or five in my whole life... but of course it depends on the point of view.
DeleteI love the random nature of the subject. Like you, I'm amazed that Naomi is doing this. I really hope she does get 1000 in return...
ReplyDeletePhillip | B is for banana
I'm sending her one, at least!
DeleteWhat a goldmine of folks you are :) Thank u!
ReplyDeleteps: am doing teh challenge too and it's just more mundane stuff like fitness/recipes. :/
Nothing more mundane that mail :)
DeleteSo where does one find a vintage postcard to send? I suppose you could find them in antique stores. I love the idea of sending postcards again with unique messages about authors and poetry, etc.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, she received a gift of 1000 postcards (from her husband). But I guess you can find them yes, in antique stores. Maybe this can inspires you a mail project... Let me know if you do!
DeleteThis is wonderful! I have never seen a bank on a postcard...makes it fun!!
ReplyDeleteShubhangi @ The Little Princess
It was the first time I saw it, too!
DeleteI always like the old downtown street views on postcards.

This postcard, the drawing... I find it charming, despite the oddity of the theme. No doubt that there are some ordinary buildings that would look nice on a postcard.
DeleteI don't believe I have ever received a bank in the mail. That looks like a bit of architectural interest. Looking forward to the rest of your postcard adventures.
ReplyDeleteNot an usual theme... Thanks for your comment. You are welcome here any time! :)
DeleteI don't think I've ever gotten a postcard from a bank. Good for them for being creative.
ReplyDeleteCreativity is not the quality that one would associate with a bank at first sight. But in this case, we can say that.
DeleteNever got one of a bank, this seems pretty cool, though!
ReplyDeleteI would be surprised if someone tell me that they did!
DeleteCool Postcard :)

Thanks for your comment :)
DeleteWhen my sisters or close friends go vacationing, they send postcards. I've never received one from a bank, but I imagine the banks give them away to customers as advertising to get more customers. The last postcard I received was from the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk Virginia. The photo is of a 1996 video installation called Hamlet Robot, created out of really old televisions by Nam June Paik.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to believe that banks offer something completely free... :)
DeleteHow cool, your postcard. I like to send postcards from museums and exhibitions, too. But sometimes it is frustrating that they don't sell the postcard you need to send!
I just discovered Postcrossing. Have not received any yet as my first 2 just now arrived. I do have a couple of postcards I picked up in different states.
ReplyDeleteYou're going to enjoy Postcrossing, sure. The only issue is that it is highly addictive :P
DeleteI feel like starting a postcard collection from all the places I visit now. Wish my mind had thought of that earlier, but thanks for planting the seed in there now.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that. You can make a list of places that you visited in the past, and try o get postcards from there. That would be fun, too.
DeleteI've not received bank postcards. I'm blanking out on an answer to your question. Maybe a pirate skull xmas card or a x-stitch pine tree xmas card. Maui Jungalow
ReplyDeleteA pirate skull Xmas card sounds as weird as my bank postcard!
DeleteMail received - it has to be a cheque to bank from a publisher.
ReplyDeleteSomehow a bank cheque sounds better than a bank postcard ...
DeleteI like postcards a lot. I have a whole bunch of them from different countries up on the walls in the staircase. :)

Cool! I also have a big board at home, where I display some of the postcards.
DeleteNo, I have never received a postcard with a bank. I have received lots of interesting ones, however, because I belong to Postcrossings.
ReplyDeleteI love your theme and will be back.

I love Postcrossing. I use less the site since I'm living in Morocco, because some postcards (a lot, I mean) get lost in way. But still... it is one of the greatest projects on the net, isn't it?
DeleteI suppose a bank on a postcard is a bit unusual, but a nice way to commemorate it. :)
ReplyDeletePostcards can be used for commemorate everything. A lot of possibilities!
DeleteLovely, spacious, light architecture, don't you think? Most older banks were rather squat and purely functional.
ReplyDeletePostcards were cheap ways to advertise. Oh, I'm telling my age or something, but I remember life in the country where the one bank had to go all out when there were suddenly two. The new bank sent postcards to say "hello, we want your business," and the old bank gave us red lollipops to compete. The furniture store sent them too when there were sales. I rather like this one.
This is a nice building, indeed. Maybe now banks doesn't focus so much in architecture, but no doubt there are still nice exemples of interesting buildings housing a bank.
DeleteI didn't receive it, but I found a ton of mail on the floor of an abandoned house and took home a letter from a mother to a daughter giving her advice. It was written in the 40s or 50s and is a treasure because of the voice.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a nice story!
DeleteHmmm...never had a postcard from a bank! That is certainly interesting! You know, there is a bookstore in Sidney-by-the-Sea, BC that has about a dozen boxes of vintage postcards, both blank and ones that have been written on and mailed. I love looking through these. They're not too pricey to buy if I remember right...

And have you bought/sent any of those?
DeleteOh wow I LOVE that postcard! <3 I studied to be an architect so it's making me very happy hehe.
