Geneviève Asse (born in 1923) is a French painter. She uses only one colour for her paintings: blue. The work reproduced on this stamp (issued on 10 November 2017) is a composition of 9 rectangles of oil-painted wallpapers and glued on a white suport, defined as an arrangement of Spaces and Lights (Espaces et Lumières).

For this (four?) round of Sunday Stamps A-Z I am going to pick up the project of showing stamps dedicated to women. You can see here all the Women on Stamps featured on this blog.
Go to Sunday Stamps to enjoy more A-stamps.
J'aimais beaucoup ce timbre ,il évoque le ciel et la mer ........
ReplyDeleteIl évoque plein d'idées. Moi, je l'aime aussi. Merci!
DeleteLes origines bretonnes de G Asse l'ont inspirés
DeleteStunning stamp. Quite an obsessive trait, to only paint in one color.
ReplyDeleteI had a look to her paintings (on the Internet) and they amazed me. They look all the same and very different at the same time.
DeleteMy first thought on seeing this was that I loved the colours.
ReplyDeleteBut, now I'm wondering why only blue?
Me too, I wonder that.
DeleteIt works well on a stamp. Her blue obsession must make it easier when stocking up on paints! I noticed she was born in Vannes, Brittany (and today has a house on the Gulf of Morbihan) which makes me wonder if the light and ever changing colours of the sea influences her.
ReplyDeleteI guess so. The sea there is amazing.
DeleteShe has far more variation in her blue than Yves Klein had!
ReplyDeleteThere is also a bluestamp dedicated to Yves Klein. They would look perfect together!
DeleteOui Klein et son fameux bleu Klein mais aussi Matisse!
