Sunday Stamps | Made of Wood

Today's theme on Sunday Stamps is Things made of wood.

I recall a couple of posts about chairs (here and here) and guitars. I thought it would be difficult to find something. However, if you look closely... there are a lot of small and big things made of wood! For instance:

More chairs

More instruments

Carts

(Out of the stamp, actually)

Signs

Covered bridges

Lighthouses

Wheels

Ships

The last wooden whaleship in the world

The richest honey-flow of all the Weald."

Sweet Home

Some of the mail I get can be archived under the Stay at home label, too. Like this handmade postcard* sent by Bryon (the USA):

Or this postcard sent by Heleen (the Netherlands). Nothing says more "stay at home" than an snail!

By Postcards from Essie

And laundry/ironing stamps, of course!

*By the way, the address label had been torn (by the postal machine, I guess). Only the postal code and the country were clearly legible... And it reached me anyway!

The New Normal

You might have noticed that a new label for posts, The New Normal, has appeared on this blog since March. Actually, I added it later, when the our government decided we were heading towards... well, The New Normal

I guess most people is still struggling to know what normal or new normal exactly means. My friend Laura sent me this postcard, and it inspired me to draw this envelope. Just to get it clear.

Orange & Cows

Art postcard sent by Heleen from the land of cows. It arrived inside an envelope... with a real stamp! But I love the alternative stamp...

The back of the postcard includes a reproduction of the famous painting De stier ('The Young Bull'), by Paulus Potter. I see the map of America on it... (!).

Hopper Paintings

Apartment Houses, 1923

I still think that Edward Hopper paintings are good illustrations for these times...

This postcard arrived on 7 May, along with stamps featuring another of Hopper's works:

Sea at Ogunquit, 1914
This stamp celebrates the 200th anniversary of Maine statehood. Nicknamed the Pine Tree State, Maine became the 23rd state in the Union on Mar. 15, 1820. Edward Hopper (1882-1967) was among the many prominent artists who sought the tranquillity of the state’s coastal towns during the summer. His painting Sea at Ogunquit (1914) captures the rugged beauty characteristic of Maine. Derry Noyes designed the stamp.

It was issued on 15 March, with a wonderful pictorial postmark:

And it arrived very well protected!

Sent by Bryon and Phillip (the USA).

Illustrated News

John (the UK) sent this postcard. It is an illustration taken from an Illustrated London News of 1856.

I find it strange to see people so close from each other. Even on postcards!
