Concerning mail, and depending the place you and your friends/family live in, there are countries more exotic than others. This is just my second postcard from Mexico. It was sent by Bryon.
The Degollado Theatre (Teatro Degollado) is located in the central plaza of Guadalajara. It was inaugurated on 13 September 1866 with the opera the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, performed by Angela Peralta,. It is considered one of the most beautiful theatres in Mexico.
One thing I like about the A to Z Challenge is the immense variety of themes, from LEGO to The textile traditions from India or the same murder (author's) with 26 different weapons or Elliot the Snail’s Adventures or streets of Paris, or London's or a life in six words... Are you following the A to Z Challenge in other blogs? Which theme has surprised you?
Beheaded is a totally astounding name for a building, but very memorable too. I love the variety in the themes of the A-Z, but they have stopped surprising me now. They always include some of the quaintest things and the most interesting...

Theme : Arabiana
I still find a surprising theme everyday, even if I can't read as many blog post as I wish.
DeleteThe thing I love about your postcards are how you weave in a bit of history and some background about each of them. It's precisely what I'd expect from a picture postcard! Plus a note at the back scrawled in a cousin's hand, 'Miss you. Wish you were here.'
ReplyDeleteAlso, that beheading reference IS creepy!
*D for Detailed: Shailaja/The Moving Quill*
I like when people wrote me something about the picture on the back of the postcard, especially if I don't know the place. But everyone writes what they wish, of course!
DeleteLeave alone the name of a building... What kind of a surname is "beheaded" ... Spelling gone wrong somewhere perhaps??
ReplyDeleteD for dog
I think the origin of the surname is another meaning of the word. But I'm not 100% sure, I'm not an expert! I just found the anecdote funny :)
DeleteOn my many trips to Mexico I never made it there. Perhaps the beheaded meaning is to ensure you behave yourself at the theatre.
ReplyDeletePerhaps! I would behave myself... just in case.
DeleteThe Degollado looks pretty royal! We have a building called Town hall in Bengaluru which looks exactly like this!
ReplyDeleteShubhangi @ The Little Princess
Now I need to look for a picture of that building...
DeleteThat is a beautiful postcard.
ReplyDeleteMelissa @ My Creatively Random Life
Thanks, Melissa.
DeleteI agree, a lovely postcard showing a stunning building. The reflection in the water is fantastic, too. Yes, there is an incredible variety of blogs, none of which i would have found easily on my own. I think the True North Bricks one is fun, and I'm enjoying Hillary Melton-Butcher's theme of British Rare Breeds.
ReplyDeleteThe translation of the theatre's name made me think of Roman theatre, where a live beheading wasn't out of place!
I forgot to ask if it also took as long to reach you as mine did.
DeleteI think it didn't took so long, but it arrived some months ago, so I don't remember exactly. Also... I wasn't waiting for this postcard at all.
DeleteOf course you're enjoying Hillary's posts for the challenge!
I was completely wrong! Now I found it: it took exactly 50 days to arrive. Snail mail.
DeleteThanks for checking that. I wonder why the Mexican mail snail takes so much longer than most others?
DeleteI think it looks very regal! I love all the A to Z themes, but my A-to-Z-ing this year is rather haphazard without "The List"...I'm still figuring out how to manage it. I have managed to find some interesting ones in any case! Mostly by following links from site to site, and not from the "official" blog, though. I'm so so happy you found me, because I love your site! And merci mille fois for the shout-out :-) Sorry I have to post as "Anonymous" but for whatever reason my computer won't let me do it under my WP or OpenID...I still can't figure out why not.
ReplyDeleteA-to-Z-er Jetgirl visiting via Forty, c'est Fantastique
I'm using Feedly, so I made my own list. Anyway, there are more interesting blogs than I can manage to read everyday. I'm also happy I found your blog :)
DeleteNo problem with commenting as "anonymous", if comments are signed.
I wish they'd have a linky for each day, so people can post their specific letter post on there instead of in a reply to the post. It takes the same amount of effort from all involved, but linky's are easier to look through than 500+ comments, imo.

I also thought that a linky would be easier. You get lost among the comments (and repeated comments, and deleted comments...).
DeleteMexico is on my wishlist, one day!
ReplyDeleteLovely click and post!

Also in my wishlist. But maybe my wishlist for trips is too long..
DeleteIt's a beautiful building, even if the name might not have the best meaning.
ReplyDeleteI guess that the habitual visitors don't think of the name.
DeleteAn interesting piece of architecture with an intriguing yet creepy name.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteHow interesting, to mean beheaded in Spanish, but also be someone's last name?! Maui Jungalow
ReplyDeleteYes, quite odd.
DeleteThanks for your visit!
What a beautiful theater! I'm enjoying your posts. Do you save all of your postcards?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I found your post - your theme got my attention. I think it is harder this year to find blogs but I keep on clicking. I'm going to check out the ones you mentioned.
I have saved all my postcards so far. In a completely disorganised way, I must add. I don't know what I'm going to do with them in the future...
DeleteI'm also enjoying your libraries a lot!
Awesome ... beheaded! I mean, it just sounds kinda cool, right? Also, don't you love saying Guadelajara. What a fun name.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I have guessed that you would like this one...
DeleteGuadalajara is also the name of a Spanish city. At first sight, I thought that the postcard had been seen from Spain.
Seems like degollado would be kind of strange for a last name as well as a building!
ReplyDeleteMy "theme" - A Thirty-Word Story, revealing one word of the story each day of the challenge.
#AtoZChallenge The Letter D
I would say very strange!
DeleteMy favourite themes to read have been the short fiction ones..
ReplyDeleteCelebrating 'Women & their work' all April: E for An Education for all
There are nice blogs with interesting flash fiction tales. However, I must say that I prefer, for the challenge, the short or visual post. So much to read!
DeleteThanks for coming.
That is a beautiful theatre! Thanks for mentioning Elliot, Eva. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. I'm enjoying the snail's adventures, so I hope more people do.
DeleteI'm glad it was mentioned too! I'm heading over now to check it out. :)

Sue I hope you see this, I wasn't able to comment on your blog because it wants me to sign in with accounts I don't have (or to allow an app to make changed to my profiles, which I'm wary of). So I'm leaving my comment here and hopefully you'll see it! :)
DeleteI’m a writer, stepping outside my comfort zone and delving into crime writing for the A-Z Challenge. My theme is: Secret Diary Of A Serial Killer. I'm writing a short chapter for each letter :) It starts from A here: http://nataliewestgate.com/2017/04/anna-secret-diary-of-a-serial-killer
I've also been reading the fun "new murder weapon each day" stories from John Frain: https://johndavisfrain.com, and the speculative fiction from J Lenni Dorner: http://jlennidornerblog.what-are-they.com :)
I've been loving the different themes too! :D And have been really enjoying Frain's posts of a murder each day with a different weapon hehe. There's also someone drawing a different animated sidekick each day, which is fun ( https://what-is-hoped-for.com ), and someone writing about weird/funny folktales ( https://multicoloreddiary.blogspot.com ) . I've been keeping a list of blogs I want to visit each day - I'm up to 16 so far and adding more today probably hehe!
ReplyDeleteHere is my "D" post: http://nataliewestgate.com/2017/04/descent-secret-diary-of-a-serial-killer
Thanks for the links! I'm going to check them... If I can add more blogs to my list!
