Important: Send Some Mail Today

Letter sent by Richard (France).

As usual in Richard's mail, you have to love all the details he includes. Like the messages on the back: Thanks to all the mail carriers in France and in Morocco and Important: send some mail today.

Or the little cow... Have you noticed?

You Cannot Collect All of Them

«Tal vez el momento sea solo un sello de correos que pierde sus dientes y sube lento pero seguro el valor de tu colección privada, a la que has asegurado por más dinero que a tus propios hijos. No puedes coleccionarlos todos, tienes que elegir, algunos hay que tirarlos o cambiarlos por otros.»

Shakespeare in Arabic

This is one  the strangest postcards I am happy to add to my Shakespeare album of postcards. It is the cover of an Arabic translation of Antony and Cleopatra, from the British Library.

Laura (the UK) bought it in an exhibition about Shakespeare in order to send it to Morocco. I wonder how many of these postcards have actually travelled to an Arabic country by snail mail...

Did You Know about BPS?

Commemorative stamps about William R. Brace, a Bristol printer that founded the APA (Amateur Printer's Association) in 1948. Today it is the BPS (British Printing Society).

These arrived, with a letter, inside this envelope sent by Alan (the UK)

Every time I receive stamps from Adanaland, I wonder which subjects I would like to issue stamps about...

... taken a couple of weeks ago in Tarifa (Spain): the southernmost point of Continental Europe.

Above, the street were the post office is, and nobody is allowed to enter (by car, obviously), except postal vehicles.

And, below, the hostel just in front of the post office: the Pensión Correo. The place I would I had stayed in! (Update December 2017: Done!)

Composition with Stamps

Letter sent to FinnBadger (the USA), replying to his airgram with balloons.

I like the idea of playing with stamps. But I must admit that part of the inspiration for this piece came from this post in Eric's blog...

You can see on the recipient's blog how the postal services managed to ruin this envelope with awful scribbles.

The Cheshire Cat

The Cat only grinned when it saw Alice.
It looked goodnatured, she thought:
still it had very long claws and a great
many teeth...
Postcard sent by John (the UK).

It belongs to the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland illustrated by John Tenniel (1820-1914), like some postcards I have received. Also the Cheshire Cat is a protagonist of a lot of them. But I have been particularly happy to receive these two versions of the same illustration:

I wish you wouldn't keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly:
you make one quiete giddy!

And a radically different version, sent by Eutrapèlia (the USA)! It was made of chocolate packaging:

Some Cartoons on Stamps

Today's Sunday Stamps - II: Cartoon characters. I thought I had uploaded all my stamps about this theme to the blog. But after a closer look...

Two more Donald (and friends) stamps, from the Netherlands. I do not know the year of issue.

Also from the Netherlands:

Jan, Jans en de Kinderen (or Jack, Jacky and the Juniors) is a Dutch comic strip by Jan Kruis, starting in the seventies. This stamp was issued on 6 October 1998 (both in normal and fluorescent paper, I have read - ?). I love the theme of the stamp: A reminder not to forget to use a stamp!

Suske en Wiske (or Spike and Suzy,Willy and Wanda, Bob et Bobette...) is a Belgian comics series created by the comics author Willy Vandersteen. The stamp was issued on 18 March 1997, in the Netherlands. Did you know these characters?

From the USA, two vintage comics but still ongoing: Archie (first appeared in 1941) and Dennis the Menace (since 1951). These stamps were issued in 2010, along with other three comic characters: Garfield, Calvin und Hobbes and Beetle Bailey.

And, from Finland, I have received some Moomins, the well-known characters by illustrator and writer Tove Jansson. However I had not heart about them before I joined Postcrossing. One more thing I have learned thanks to stamps! The stamps below were issued in different years. I think Finland issues regularly stamps with Moomins!

Paris Post

I received this postcard from Laura (the UK) the same week that, for one of those coincidences, I had sent this Paris-themed illustrated envelope to her:

From 30 November to 11 December 2015, the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) took place in Paris. On 24 November 2015, the French Post released a special round-shaped stamp, devoted to this event.

I had seen this stamp on the net (for instance), and I was more than happy to receive it on a letter (almost the same day). Can you spot the Eiffel Tower? I think it is a super design.

And I have received more of the animail collection...
