This stamp belongs to a set entitled Picture Book Animals, issued by USPS on 10 January 2006.
In the same letter, I received another stamp from that set: Frederick, the main character of the book with the same name by Leo Lionni (1967).
I have not read any of the books. But, somehow, Frederick on this stamp seems to me the poor relative of Queen Maisy...
I added this post to Sunday Stamps, for the letter Q.
What an unexpected, however very welcome, character for Queen. Love these mice :)
ReplyDeleteAt first, I thought she was a male mouse, and I have prepared this entry for K. It is not easy to distinguish, when it comes to drawn mice!
DeleteNot easy in real mice either :)
DeleteI very soon saw (read) Maisy Mouse was/is a 'she' (by the way, in the Dutch translations she simply is named Muis = Mouse).
DeleteIn contrary, for Miffy (Nijntje in Dutch = small rabbit) it took years, even a decade, for me to discover Ninntje was/is a 'she', too!
Lovely stamps, and if you don't know the two mice, you immediately would think of a famous fairy-tale (some about a beggar and a prince(ss)).
That story was exactly what came to my mind :)
Delete:-)
DeleteSomehow I missed reading Maisy Mouse (too old, I guess!)
ReplyDeleteYou're never too old for reading any book.
DeleteI learned about (and read) Maisy at the age of 37 :-)
DeleteI enjoyed the set although Maisy was unfamiliar but cute
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteMinnie Mouse is the one I remember, bt these look fun.
ReplyDeleteI guess Minnie is more famous!
