I had previously received one of the same set, with tulips (sort of my favourite flower):
It is written in the stamp: "Tulipa sp. Tulipa is the Latinised version of the Ottoman Turkish tülbend meaning turban. A fully opened tulip was thought to resemble a turban (fig.1)."
Oh, and I found another I have got months ago!
It shows the Passiflora sp. I'm not able to read all the words properly (sorry I didn't take a better picture!), but it tells how 18th century missionaries discovered this flower and considered its parts tells us about the Crucifixion of Christ story.
Update:
More information about these stamps here.
Those are beautiful - a set I missed.
ReplyDeleteI think I've received another one from this set, but I'm not able to find it now!
DeleteThey're beautiful! Too bad that I can't get my hands on any of them...
ReplyDeleteMaybe now it's difficult, because they were issued some years ago.
DeleteI missed these two. I'm cross because our passion flower succumbed to the frost two years ago, its replacement has not flowered yet. I guess you can tell which is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteTulips?
DeleteI missed this set too:-( I love those attached tabs, and the flowers of course.
ReplyDeleteThe labels are nice. I think my friend had a good idea by sending the labels along with the stamps.
DeleteWhat a lovely series. Tulips are among my top 3 favourite flowers (though not the basic red and yellow varieties we see in the stores - there are so many attractive versions)
ReplyDeleteI think the tulips on this stamps are everything but boring!
DeleteWhat a beautiful set. the blue of gentians just takes my breath away. We have a different species in the USA but a similar blue.
ReplyDeletethank you for joining in.
Beautiful, and like all the others from the UK, I've not seen them before... I think we go around with our eyes closed. They're from 2004, I believe, after some hasty googling.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been receiving these in the last years, so I'm not sure about the date of issue. I think my friend bought a bunch of them (and I'm grateful for that, of course!).
