These stamps, issued on 3 April 2018, belong to the series History of Clothing, which Magyar Posta began in 2016. It presents two 17th-century wedding outfits that are kept in the Esterházy treasury. More information about these stamps.
The stamps arrived, among other, on this letter from Micu (Hungary).
This is a post for Sunday Stamps, letter C.
these kind of wedding clothes always amaze me! So full of detail... and all seem so heavy to be worn!
ReplyDeleteAnd so uncomfortable, I think! :)
DeleteFascinating that they have been so well preserved, and they make for good stamp topics.
ReplyDeleteI wonder when they were used for the last time...
DeleteVery pretty, what a pity there was no photography in the 17th Century, I'd like to see a picture of a wedding. Nice stamp theme.
ReplyDeleteAt least, there must be some paintings...
Deleteeven though a neighbouring country, I rarely see Hungarian stamps, and these are really pretty...a small representation of what a rich culture that I am sure is so worth exploring..!
ReplyDeleteA friend writes me sometimes from Hungary, and the stamps are often very nice and, in my opinion, very modern.
DeleteVery nice clothing stamps. The link wouldn't open so I'm curious if the stamp on the left side is for men.
ReplyDeleteI have corrected the link, thanks.
DeleteYou are right, it's for men: "The first stamp shows a dolman, the undercoat of Hungarian male clothing, which could be worn over a shirt without a pelisse"
I really like his outfit - those buttons sound magnificent! - but hers looks so heavy, and I am distracted by how short her arms look.
ReplyDeleteBut what a treasure to have these in such good condition.
It looks like a fairy tale dress to me... :)
DeleteI especially love the elegant dark colors in the clothing.
ReplyDelete"Elegant" is the word!
DeleteMagnificent clothes - we have just celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary and would have been proud to have worn such elegant clothes.
ReplyDeleteI bet you were very elegant! :)
