Bridges on Stamps

Today Sunday Stamps- II is about Bridges. This is a favourite of mine, and I have dedicated some posts to this topic (1, 2, 3).

Some stamps that (I think) I had not posted before:

Mail Adventures in Greece

Last month, I took the boat from Sifnos island to Folegandros island. It stopped at Kimolos (another little island that we did not visited) and five or six passengers got off. I was on the stern desk (the cheaper tickets!).

I saw how the man with the red T-shirt disembarked the ELTA van. Then entered in the van, chose two big sacks and threw them off the van. Those big bags with letters inside stayed on the ground while the same man embark the van again in our boat. It occurred to me that also the postcards that I had written in Sifnos were in the same van.

Eventually, the boat set sail. People was leaving the port, but those lonely mail sacks were still laying on the ground, waiting. The man with the red T-shirt had disappeared. I thought of people longing for love letters...

From the distance, just before the island vanished into the sea I saw that he regained the mail (now I noticed that the bags were heavy), put the bags in another van and left the port as well. I was relieved.

Freda's Adventures

Do you remember Freda, the smile sender, from the Mail a Smile project? She came to spend some days in Spain with me. Now she is back in Hungary, resting a bit before her new trip. She is such a globetrotter...!

Standing Stones

I love the different light in both pictures. These standing stones always intrigue me. Let me post again the stamp about Carnac Stones:

Along with this one about Locmariaquer Megaliths, also in Brittany (France).

On October 1st 2014, Correos issued also one stamp about the Talaiotic Culture, showing one of these impressive Bronze Age megaliths in the island of Menorca. An innovative and surprising aspect of this stamp: it is encrusted with a small amount of limestone dust from the area where the monuments stand. The surface is a bit rough.

And now I need a stamp or a postcard of Obelix...!

Cheerful Fish

Yesterday, my first thought was to publish also this stamp received from Spain. Then I realised that a Basque whale does not fit exactly in the theme fishes.

It belongs to a 2013 sheet devoted to marine species in danger of extinction. Four stamps featuring the Basque whale, the bluefin tuna, the Mediterranean monk seal and the sea lamprey. I have received only the whale, but I have sent the whole set to Heleen (the Netherlands).

I took the pictures without stamps, so better to show  it as posted in Heleen's blog (and the stamps here). But... without any postmark!

Someone told me that a lot of my postcards from Spain arrive without postmarks. Shortage of ink? Laziness? ...?
