Thursday Postcard Hunt | Illustrated Fruits

Postcards with botanical illustrations sent from Germany and the USA through the Postcrossing site. I just love citrus!

Let me add more non-illustrated oranges that I have recently got from Florida:

But one can live only on oranges (especially in the summer!). So... What about these mirabelles sent by Fabienne (France)? It seems that the mirabelles from Lorraine are especially good!

Sunday Stamps | Les Rencontres d'Arles

The EUROMED postal theme in 2023 was Mediterranean Festivals. France issued a stamp about the photographie festival Les Rencontres d'Arles.

The stamp is based on a photograph by Alessandro Mosalini. It shows a visitor looking at a photograph by Mitch Epstein, exhibited at the Montmajour Abbey during the summer of 2022.

Today's theme in Sunday Stamps is Warm Vacation Locations. I hope it looks warm enough to you!

Today's theme in Sunday Stamps is Birds. I have quite a few in my collection, so today I chose two cousin birds from different countries, whose illustrations I really like.

Thursday Postcard Hunt | Cave Paintings

This orange hind belongs to the Cave of Altamira, a cave complex in the Nort of Spain, renowned for prehistoric cave art featuring charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings of fauna and human hands. The earliest paintings were applied around 36,000 years ago.

In 1985 it was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The cave can no longer be visited, for conservation reasons, but there are replicas of a section at the site and elsewhere.

Thursday Postcard Hunt | Magere Brug

This folded card shows a bridge over the river over the river Amstel in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

The central section of the bridge is a bascule bridge made of white-painted wood. The present bridge was built in 1934. The first bridge at this site was built in 1691 as Kerkstraatbrug and had 13 arches. Because this bridge was very narrow, the locals called it magere brug, which literally means "skinny bridge".

There are some legends associated to the bridge. If you feel curious, you can read about them in the Wikipedia.

I have got two more postcards of the same bridge. An advertisement one...

Luchtje scheppen?

... And another one where you can see the same bridge made of  ontbijkoek (gingerbread)!

Finally, let me share this stamp issued on 26 March 2012, and  presented by the Netherlands for the theme Visit... of Europa Stamps.

All this mail was sent by Heleen (the Netherlands), some years ago.

Il fallait oublier le confort

This postcard was made out of an old advertisement of Renault. It reads: Il fallait oublier le confort ('We had to forget about comfort'). And it is really big. Just look at the size of the pen!

Sent by Fabienne (France).
