Vera Mukhina (1889 – 1953) was a famous sculptor, the creator of the monument Worker and Kolkhoz Woman, the winner of the Grand Prix at the exhibition in Paris for a collection of women's clothing decorated with painted peas and, according to the legend, the designer of Russian faceted glass.
The stamps was sent by Eduard (Russia) on the back of this matching postcard:

Nice card and stamp combination. I did think when reading about her Worker and Kolkhoz Woman and the technical problems to contend with by using stainless chrome nickel steel she might have had muttered some choice words about the professors idea while making it. She does however look like a woman who could rise to a challenge.
ReplyDeleteShe does!
DeleteI was so fascinated by the painted peas I tried to find images. Alas, it appears there are few surviving images, and I couldn't find any online. I am picturing green garden peas, but no doubt the reality is different!
ReplyDeleteI didn't find any picture either, sorry.
DeleteWhat a great stamp and postcard. Painted peas? awesome! I hope they are real peas.... :-)
ReplyDeleteI imagine they were :)
DeleteI am in awe at her mastery of such a huge statue!
ReplyDeleteNot an easy work, certainly!
