Netherlands King's Day

Postcard & matching stamp sent last year by Heleen (the Netherlands) to celebrate Koningsdag.

I would have expected orange stamps to celebrate Koningsdag... And they arrived on the back of another postcard!

Keeping calm is always a good idea. And also celebrating, of course!

Koningsdag

Royal envelope sent to Heleen (the Netherlands). I know it should be orange...

Alice's Illustrations

Front

Envelope sent to John (UK). This year I did not wait until the year finishes to reuse some pages of the calendar!

Back

Front & postcard

I thought that the Queen of Hearts was a good choice for Koningsdag... But I am afraid that this letter never reached Heleen's mailbox :(

Back

Happily, these postcard sent by Bryon (the USA), did arrive safe and sound!

"I'm a poor man, your Majesty,"
the Hatter began, in trembling voice...

Just then she heard something splashing about in the pool a
little way off, and she swam nearer to make out what it was...

And also did this (big!) postcard sent by John (the UK), about the lest known adventures of Alice. (He had previously sent its twin.)

Orange Kings and Others

Letter sent to Heleen (the Netherlands) for the King's Day. Happily, it arrived on time. I added an orange stamp of the new Spanish King.

Philip V ascended the throne on June 19, 2014. The Spanish postal service issued a miniature set with two stamps on October 12, 2014. But it was not until January 19, 2015 that they issued the basic six stamps. The stamp on the envelope belongs to these. You can see below the first (and only) I have received so far. I am amazed because they still sell me stamps of the former king,

The series of 0,01 €, 0,04 €, 0,10 €, 1 € and 2€. There is also an useless stamp of 5 €.

This is post for Sunday Stamps - II. The theme for today is Royalty, from any country (but a bonus if it's Victoria). I wonder if there is also a bonus for the King Smurf or the Queen of Hearts (on the sticker-stamps)...

Update

While I was writing this post, I received another orange king... from the Netherlands. The stamp belongs to this set. It was issued on August 2, 2014 to commemorate King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima's copper wedding anniversary: 12 1/2 years of marriage. The picture shows the king and the queen rooting for Dutch athletes. I find it quite original.

Koningsdag

"I'm supposed to be a king..."

Sent to Heleen (the Netherlands).

Today is the King's Day in the Netherlands. In fact, the first King's Day in a lot of year, as until 2013 they celebrate Queen's Day (here the confusion of the poor orange princess on the cover...).

I had received some orange mail before in this occasion, and this year I finally managed to send some Koningsdag mail! I sent it as a letter to the future, to be sure that the receiver opened it in the right day!

Koningssoep

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands), on 27th April, birthday of the prince.

It was made of a package with fresh orange ingredients for the Koningssoep (='King soup') invented for this 30th April, when the queen passed her job to her son (the first king since 1890!). I love the idea that Koningsdag (='King's Day', formerly Koninginnedag or 'Queen's Day') is an opportunity for Oranjegekte (='orange craze'): people decorate houses, cars, shops and entire streets in orange colour, wear orange clothing and even dye their hair! I must be there one year!

I love the festive decorations on the postcard. And did you noticed the royal stamps with the queens Beatrix and Juliana?

Crema Catalana

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands).

Postcard made of food packaging bought long long time ago. But it stills smells to crema catalana! I usually don't publish the back of the postcards, but this is very nice:

I especially love the fact that the post officers thought the stamp was a real one and postmarked it!

By the way, today is Queen's Day, so I'm happy to have some orange incoming mail from the Netherlands to post!

Oranje snackmix

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands).
Postcard made of a cardboard food packaging.
It contained special orange food for the UEFA European Football Championship (June - July 2012). The Netherlands national football team is also called Oranje. You know that football is light years far from my mind and I have not the slightest idea about this sport. But if I did have to choose a team, the orange one could be a nice choice (because of the colour, of course!).

Hairdo

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands).
Orange letter by the occasion of Queen's Day. 30th April would be my favourite day if I lived in the Netherlands, because of the orange, of course. Please, notice the Queen's crown on the envelope. And, as you see some orange items that arrived inside this envelope... And please, notice also the similarities between this Hello Kitty's hairstyle and the Queen's hairstyle on the stamp...
