Dear Eduardo

Do you remember the Eduardo Munez Letter Project? Maybe you sent a letter to this mysterious man. Or more than one, like I did myself. It was a very dear project to me: it is the first time (and the only, so far!) that I have appeared as Mail Art Consultant in the credits of a film.

Until FinnBadger attracted my attention to it, I had forgotten to tell you that the short film is available for free in Youtube (actually, since August 2023).

It Is Raining Letters

Postcard sent by John (the UK). It features a scene on one (the first?) Harry Potter's film. Probably the favourite scene of snail mail lovers, isn't it?

Fargo Philathely

Two hobbies coming together, it is always nice. So I love that the creators of Fargo have chosen stamps to promote the third season! And there are some stamps on the poster that I really would like to see on letters. Who knows? Maybe they inspire the USPS...

(Billboards with this poster, see here.)

Mail-Related Postcards

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands). Special for air mail?

This is the General Post Office (G.P.O.), the Jim Larkin statue and the Spire, in O'Connel Street, Dublin City, Ireland. Laura posted this postcard at GPO during a short trip to this city.

By the way, have you seen the series Inside the GPO?

Sent by Laura (the UK). It is one of the designs issued by Royal Mail to commemorate its 500th anniversary. The postcard is a reproduction from a stamp designed by Atelier Works, featuring a photograph of Medway Mail Centre. I received also one of the stamps:

Would You Like to See Your Letter in a Film?

Have you ever received mail for someone you don't know?We are making a short dark comedy film inspired by the wrong mail.
Eduardo Munez tells the story of a man on the edge.... And a LOT of letters!

The original crowdfunding campaign was funded by 104% on December 6, 2015 (But you can still contribute!).

Along with the funds we need to collect lots of amazing letters from around the world for use in the film as props. What we don't want is for all the mail in our film to be boring junk mail! We are looking for mail artists and snail mail lovers to get involved in our project by sending us letters which we can feature in our film! We need a LOT of them!

We are looking for letters, particularly drawn envelopes, mail art and plain envelopes - not postcards. Most importantly the letters must be addressed to Mr Eduardo Munez.
We will have to change the real addresses on the front to the 'fake' address of the character in the film so please leave the address section fairly clear of decoration.

In our film the letters to Mr Eduardo Munez do not get opened - so inside you can write whatever you like. You can use your imagination - who do you think Eduardo Munez is? What kind of mail would he receive?

Once shooting on the film is completed we will video the team opening all the letters we have received and having a look at their mysterious contents...! We'll provide everyone who contributes with a password protected video link to watch them all being opened. All letter writers will also receive special thanks in the credits too...

With each letter writer's permission - we will also publish them on our Facebook page and the blog of the project.

The address to send your mysterious mail to is:

Mr Eduardo Munez
272 Waterloo Street,
Newcastle upon Tyne,
NE1 4DJ
UNITED KINGDOM

Deadline: 1 March, 2016 30 April, 2016
Please, be sure to write your sender details on the back of the envelope as the letters will not be opened until after the film is completed!

If you'd like to ask any questions about the project please email: ruthtapp@hotmail.co.uk

Feel free to spread the word!

Il Club di Giulietta

An early 14th-century house at Via Cappello no. 23, in Verona
claiming to be the Capulets', filled with love letters.

Since the 1930s, letters addressed to Shakespeare's heroine Juliet keep arriving in Verona. More than 5000 letters are received annually, three quarters of which are from women (and mostly American teenagers). The letters are read and replied by local volunteers organized since the 1980 in the Club di Giulietta (Juliet Club), financed by the City of Verona.

It is also a tradition to put small love letters on the walls (which is done by the thousands each year), which are regularly taken down by employees to keep the courtyard clean.

The amount of letters has been increased after the release of the American film Letters to Juliet on May 14, 2010. The idea for the film was inspired by the 2006 non-fiction book published by Lise Friedman and Ceil Friedman, which chronicles the phenomenon of letter writing to Shakespeare's most famous romantic heroine.

Melvin the Machine

I discovered Melvin (created by design studio HEYHEYHEY) thanks to Postcrossing blog. I'm not sure if we can consider Melvin exactly "people". But anyway: someone who stick a stamp so carefully can't be just a machine, don't you agree?
