One Stamp: Responses

On this post I asked the readers of the blog, and the Twitter folks, to answer the following question:
Where did you like to be right now if they could chose any place in the world. Say it with one stamp. Only one!
Again, the responses where very different:

Guillaume Pelletier / @gpelletierQC

"I’d like to visit the Mont-St-Michel, France."

StampsWorldwide / @stampsworldwid

"I’d like to visit Luxor, Egypt!"

FinnBadger

"Anywhere cold!"

violet s / See it on a postcard

"If I could be anywhere in the world right now?
New Zealand comes to mind, for so many reasons.
Gardens are such restorative places, and NZ has many."

Women on Stamps | S for Scouts

Scouting or the Scout Movement is a worldwide educational movement that works for the integral development of the young people, that they may play constructive roles in society, with a strong focus on the outdoors and survival skills. It was founded in 1907 in England, and spread later to a large number of countries.

The stamp above was issued in 1962 to honour the 50th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America. And, the following one, in 1987:

Scouting seems to be a very popular subject for stamps. In 2007, because of the 100th anniversary of scouting, this was the theme of the EUROPA stamps. If you feel curious, you can see here the great variety of stamps issued.

I have received more stamps, featuring girls and boys:

Czech Republic, 2007

Sri Lanka, 2016

Guernsey, 1985

USA, 1998

New Zealand, 1953

For the current round of Sunday Stamps A-Z I am showing stamps dedicated to women. You can see here all the Women on Stamps featured on this blog.

Long Live the Summer!

Postcard sent to Laura (the UK). I painted this watermelon-whale during the spring, when I was longing for the summer...

And another watercolour postcard sent to Dot (New Zealand). This was my first one, hence the yellowish spot on the edge...

Water on Stamps

Today's theme in Sunday Stamps-II is Water. It was surprising to discover that I have received a lot of stamps that show water in one or another form.

Unable to decide among them, I have chosen to contribute with two different approaches:

Waterfalls

From New Zealand
Issued on May 9, 2007. It shows Rainbow Falls. More information about the issue.

From Russia
Issued on 16 august 2005. It belongs to a series of 5 withe the title The Earth - Light-blue Planet. A better picture and more details here.

Saving Water

From Spain
Issued on January 3, 2013. It belongs to the series of Civic Values, and was issued because of the declaration of 2013 as The International Year of Water Cooperation. More information here.

The funny fact about this stamp is that I have received it sometimes upside down:

Or, just yesterday, like that:

A bit confusing, I guess!

From France
Issued on April 4, 2014. Included in the sheet Act on Climate Change for the Sake of the Future.

Geology and Landscapes

The theme for this week in Sunday Stamps is Geology or Landscapes. Happily Viridian offered this alternative. Because I have realised that stamps about geology are quite common around the world. However, I have received just one so far!

Anyway, I am proud to show it, as I love the theme, its colours and its triangular shape:

The second part to the theme allows me to post some stamps about beautiful, sometimes distant, landscapes. I love the stamps made of a real picture. You can discover more and more details if you look closer to them.

Sea Creatures on Stamps

Sometimes I wonder who (exactly) decides themes for stamps in each country. I do not know which theme I would choose if I had the chance of designing a stamp. But there are some themes which seem to appear in stamps from the whole world. For instance, fishes (?!). Suddenly I realised that I have received quite a lot stamps with fishes, and I wanted to show some of them here. Believe or not, I had my post ready before reading Viridian's suggestion for Sunday Stamps this week: Sea creatures.

From China

From Greece

From Japan

From Malaysia

From New Zealand

This is not exactly a sea creature, but I considered it was a interesting stamp to show here. It is a hei matau: a bone or greenstone carving in the shape of a fish hook. It is typical of the Maori people of New Zealand, and represents strength, good luck and safe travel across water.
