Two stamps featuring the former King Hassan II, almost 30 years apart. And, below, a more recent stamp I got: the current king (since 1999) Mohammed VI.

Women on Stamps | Youthful Heroines

This stamp dedicated to Sybil Ludington was issued in 1975. The caption Youthful Heroine (better picture here) caught my attention when I got it. So, who was this girl? 

Sybil Ludington (1761 – 1839), of Putnam County, New York, is celebrated as a heroine of the American Revolutionary War. On the night of April 26, 1777, at the age of 16, she rode to alert militia forces in villages of Putnam County, New York and Danbury, Connecticut, to the approach of the British regular forces. She rode a total of 40 miles (64 km) in the hours of darkness.

Anne Frank (1929 – 1945) was one of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl (originally Het Achterhuis) in which she documents two years of her life in hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. 

On 2 September 2016, PostNL issued a stamp sheet to mark the Year of the Book. Ten special books from the Royal Library were depicted on the sheet, Frank's diary among them. I was more than happy to receive the whole set two years ago.

Yakoute Chennaoui isn't a heroine (yet), but she won one of the 4 prices of the stamp design contest by the Moroccan postal service, under the theme "Design a green stamp", for children between 8 an 14 years old. You can see here the four stamps, that belong to the series Children's Creativity.

Moroccan Men

On this postcard, two men are dressed in one of the traditional costumes you usually see in the north of Morocco, mostly in the mountains, but also in the city I live in (especially in festive days). The postcard shows the touristy city of Chefchaouen, not far away from my home.

I think this is only the third postcard from Morocco I have ever got by post.

This one came from an exhibition in Spain. It is a painting by Catalan artist Marià Fortuny (1838-1874). He travelled to Morocco and some of his works are inspired in this country, like this one from 1869: Un marroquí ('A Moroccan man').

Would You Post a Plane?

I was in El Jadida (Morocco) in June, and, after an exhibition of old pictures of the city, I learned that the building above was the first post office established there.  Below, the post office nowadays, which I think is also a beautiful building, don't you?

With some interesting details. For instance, on the ceiling:

I took advantage of another trip to Rabat (earlier this summer) to take new (better?) pictures of the main post office building, and more street art on mailboxes.

Giacometti Stamp

This is one of my favourite stamps issued by Poste Maroc (And I am not alone!). It was issued on 27 April 2016, devoted to an exhibition about the Swiss painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti, in the Museum Mohammed VI of Modern and Contemporary Art, in Rabat. I guess they included the map of Africa because it is the first time that these works are exhibited in the continent.

I had the chance to visit the exhibition. I enjoyed it, and I was surprised to discover that the artist used whatever paper he can found to make his sketches. Even the envelopes he got by snail mail...

I have not received the stamp myself, but I sent it ten times (not more stamps available in the post office!). I have stolen from Heleen's blog the picture for this post.
