| The postwoman wishes you happy holidays |
In the past, it was common to find a postcard like this in the mailbox, and give the postal deliverer a small gift (money, biscuits...). It had been a long time since I saw one! It was sent by a postwoman, but not the one that delivers letters to my house: it arrived by post.
Did this custom also exist in your country? Or does it still exist?

ReplyDeleteNo, I don't remember that happening on our side of the border, although It might have happened to.
I do remember the "Guarda Nocturno", usually an oldish, retired policeman that would do night rounds in your neighbourhood, knocking at the door around this time to wish us Merry Xmas and, of course, collect an extra tip.
The last Guarda Nocturno I remember was still active in the neighbourhood I worked in for a while on Lisbon, in the late 90s of last Century...

The Russian Post is going through a difficult time. At my post office, there are no postmen and no one delivers mail. I have to go to the post office to pick up my letters and postcards. So I'm the postman.
