«I visit the post office once a month for stamps. I never buy seasonal stamps, only your classic star and stripes, because there is a certain structure, an ORDER, that needs to obeyed. If you keep the mechanism in order, the the contents of the correspondence, the material of the letters I mean, can go anywhere. Be anything. You can write to anyone. You can say anything you like.»

I can't imagine being so disciplined when there are so many attractive stamps available!
ReplyDeleteI agree w Finn. I enjoyed the book but can't relate to her restrictive use of stamp choices!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to read the book to understand why someone needs so much order and structure in an activity that is often governed by pure chaos.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if I only received classic stamps (stars and bars, heads of kings...)... I won't say I wouldn't like the mail, but my experience would certainly be different!
