Thursday Postcard Hunt | Expensive

I was hesitant to upload a postcard to this week Thursday Postcard Hunt, the theme being A place you would not like to visit (for whatever reason). Ont the one hand, I did not wish to offend anyone, sender or reader. On the other hand, my first thought when I get any postcard is often: "What a nice place to visit!".

However, two weeks ago I got this postcard from Denmark (thanks to Phillip & Brian!). Lately, news from Danish postal service are too sad. Getting mail from there would become more difficult (or impossible?) after 2025, so I was more than happy to receive this one.

The city seems really beautiful but... Have you noticed the price of the postage?
50 DKK = 6,70 € = 7,87 USD = 10,68 CAD

Surely, the prohibitive price of postage or the impossibility of sending mail from there are enough reasons not to visit a place!

  1. That is an interesting reason to not visit! I've had cards from Denmark sent from Germany because of the price of stamps. I've found a few places where I am delighted to get a card from even if i wouldn't care to visit in person.

    1. There is no such place I wouldn't like to get a postcard from. Visiting is different but... getting a postcard? Always! :)

  3. Lovely card but a startling price to pay, and I thought our stamp prices were high!

    1. Danish mail rates are prohibitive. And we'll see what happens with international mail...

  4. I remember decades ago American's complained about the price of stamps, when I'd been places where they were considerably higher. I always say, with each increase in stamp price (and how with Forever stamps I have no idea how much they cost individually!), they come to your mailbox, pick up your mail, drive it, fly it, hundreds or thousands of miles, and deliver it to someone else's mail box. Pretty good deal for the cost of a stamp.

    1. They just went up to 78c - still considerably cheaper than most countries

    2. What I envy is that you have only one international rate. From Spain, it depends on the destination. In Morocco was far more complicated, though.

    3. That's true for a 1 ounce letter. Heavier than that they're are 6 zones, I think ☠️

  5. The postcard is beautiful. I never visited Denmark, but I imagine it to have many attractive locations (like the rest of Europe, I think). Still, I would choose other places to visit :-)

    1. Why visit a country where you cannot afford to send postcards from? ;)
