Sunday Stamps | Sur la plage

Édouard Manet (1832-1883) painted this canvas in the summer of 1873, during three weeks spent with his family in the little coastal town of Berck-sur-Mer. He had his wife and brother pose for him on the beach, as is evidenced by the grains of sand mixed with the paint.

    1. I have seen few of his works, but I like them.

  3. It's creative to make use of the natural surroundings when painting. I wonder how comfortable it was for them being covered with heavy layers of clothing!

  4. The beach would be my destination too. Although, it's usually called the coast here for some reason. Maybe "beach" sounds like a warm sunny swimming spot. I like the sand in the paint!

    1. The coast would be my destination, no. There are coasts with no beaches at all.
