Street Life

Even if I have not any special album for them, postcards showing street life are among my favourite. Normal people doing normal things. I don't mean people shopping or working or visiting famous buildings (but I also like these views!)... just wandering around the city. I am always amazed to realise that all the cities in the world look so similar and so different at the same time...

The Oldest Mail Box in Spain

According to the information in the site of Correos (Spanish postal service), this stamp issued in March 2001 features the oldest mail box in Spain. It is located in a house in Mayorga (province of Valladolid). There is an inscription on the mail box: "Coreo / Ano de / MDCCXCIII" ('Mail / Year / 1793). The first reference to mail boxes in Spanish laws dates from 1762.

Some Lighthouses

Right now I am visiting some lighthouses (which is my ideal of holidays, you know). So good moment to show you the latest I have received, all them located in Germany:

Sent by Maren (Germany), through Postcrossing. Some lighthouses in the North Sea. I can recognise most of them, even if I have never been to Germany!

Sent by Heleen (the Netherlands). Dornbusch Lighthouse in the north of the German island of Hiddensee in the Baltic Sea. Below a different view, also sent by Heleen. I never get tired of getting postcards of lighthouses, even if it is the same lighthouse. Depending on the time of the year, the hour, the weather... every picture is different. Even if it is the same postcard, each one has its own story.

And a letter sent by Eva (Germany), with a stamp of Falsthöft Lighthouse, also in the Baltic Sea.

Super Pen Pal

I've ever been to Malta, and I've met only one Maltese woman so far. But this little country has always attracted my attention, and I suppose is because of its language, the Maltese, descended from Sicilian Arabic. The postcard shows St Paul's Cathedral in Mdina, the old capital.

Letterquette

I found this word here. It seems it isn't a common word, but I like it anyway. Letterquette refers to the rules we need to know before starting writing letters.

There are a lot of litterature about these rules, maybe one of the most famous books being Etiquette, of Emily Post (just the perfect name to write about letter writing...). But since I'm an snailmailer, I tend to believe there are not rules when it comes to write a letter. You just need to be kind and respectful. And not forget the motto: To get a letter, write a letter.
