States Project | The Lone Star State

One among many other curious thing about this new States Project postcard: Why the Texas states bird is the Northern Mockingbird? (Same as in Arkansas and Florida, by the way).

Oh... And is there a state verb?!?

    Whenever I meet two Texans together I ask if " Fixin to' is one word "Fixinto" or two words, "Fixin to". Quite often an argument ensues between them!

    My favorite is when Texans use 'all y'all', just in case 'y'all' isn't enough. ;)

      When it isn't your native language, you think that everyone speaks fast. So, if Texans speak particularly fast for an Englishman... :O
