Sunday Stamps | Y Is for Youth

The European Youth Capital is a title awarded by the European Youth Forum to a European city annually, designed to empower young people, boost youth participation and strengthen European identity through projects focused on youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development. The European Youth Capital is an initiative by the European Youth Forum and is awarded for a period of one year.

In 2014, Thessaloniki (Greece) was the chosen city. The current capital for the 2026 calendar year is Tromsø, Norway.

This is my Y-post for A-Z Sunday Stamps. Y is always a difficult letter!

A New Year of Mail

I like that this postcard, among some important events we can look forward to this year, lists "Happy Mail"!

It experienced a small mail adventure. It was sent by Heleen (the Netherlands) well in advance, with my address clearly written on the white envelope and more postage than necessary.

But the postal machines got confused with this reverse, so they postmarked the non-stamps and delivered it... to the sender! Heleen sent it back it in a larger envelope.

750th Birthday of Amsterdam

In 2025, the 750th birthday of the city of Amsterdam was celebrated with stamps, and also with a Postcrossing meeting.

The first time the city of Amsterdam was mentioned in a document was the privilege (see the back) handed by count Floris V to citizens of Amsterdam (see the front), in 1275. The count also built the castle Muiderslot (see the bottom left stamp). The top left stamp shows the Dam Square.

All is Well That Ends Well

One on my postal projects in 2025 was to count how many days I received mail. Here is the final count:
  1. January: 3 days
  2. February: 1 day
  3. March: 1 day
  4. April: 4 days
  5. May: 5 days
  6. June: 8 days
  7. July: 7 days
  8. August: 7 days
  9. September: 5 days
  10. October: 6 days
  11. November: 6 days
  12. December: 9 days
After a frustrating quarter, things got better. Finally, December was the best mail month of 2025. So we can only hope that 2026 will be even better!

12th Day of Christmas: No

As a recent letter said, we cannot expect anything less than chaos from the postal services. The card corresponding to the 12th Day of Christmas was sent on 17th November, but it still has not arrived. Does it mean Christmas is not over this year?

Sunday Stamps | W Is for White

Betty White (1922 - 2021), was an American actress and comedian. A pioneer of early television with a career spanning almost seven decades, she was noted for her vast number of television appearances, acting in sitcoms, sketch comedy, and game shows. One of her biggest roles is Rose on the sitcom The Golden Girls (1985–1992).

The stamp honouring White was issued on 27 March 2025. Phillip sent it on an envelope along with the first day postmark and the perfect postcard inside!

This is the W-entry for the A-Z Sunday Stamps I dedicate to Women on Stamps.
