Lately, I am getting more illustrated postcards than pictures. I like both, of course. So let's dedicate a post to some traditional postcards that give a sense of travelling and discovering new places...

Woman on Postcards | J is for Janneke

Fiep Westendorp is a (favourite!) Dutch illustrator who became popular due to her long collaboration with writer Annie M.G. Schmidt with their creation of Jip and Janneke.

Postcard sent by by Romina (The Netherlands). Actually, it is the second time I receive it (which I don't mind, of course).

Mail Art Egg

Mail Art Egg was organised first time in 2012 with the aim of changing the original paradigm of egg by creating postal letters considering egg as a shape. There were 164 letters received from almost all parts of the world, created by kids to grown-ups from Brazil to England, including Hungary as well. All of these masterpieces were exhibited at different places in Hungary at Easter-time followed by an official handover-ceremony to the Postal Museum in Budapest, Hungary. This museum owns the biggest collection of stamps in the world – which is now complemented by these Mail Egg masterpieces as well. This is the 15th year that Mail-Art Egg Project is being announced!

Thursday Postcard Hunt | USA Cities

Postcards from Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA):

Aerial view of downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania "The Golden Triangle", and Point State Park. The Allegheny River (left) and the Monongahela River (right) converge at Pittsburgh's Point to form the Ohio River.

The moon and the style of these illustrations make the cities very attractive. Phillip (the USA) has sent me a couple more from different states: Nashville (Tennessee) and Louisville (Kentucky).

From a Sunny Place

I sent some citrus postcards in mid-summer (28th July 2025). One of them arrived in Russia in mid-winter (early February). As the recipient wrote... maybe it is not arriving late, but too soon!

Printed Collage

Front and back of an envelope made by Lilli (Canada). She makes the collages, and then prints copies for envelopes or writing paper. A great idea!
