Bodie Island
The current Bodie Island Lighthouse stands 48 m tall, and is the third that has stood in this vicinity of Bodie Island on the Outer Banks in North Carolina and was built in 1872. It was renovated from 2009 to 2013, and was made climbable by the public. There are 219 steps that spiral to the top. It is one of only a dozen remaining tall, brick tower lighthouses in the United States — and one of the few with an original first-order Fresnel lens to cast its light.
I really like receiving different postcards of the same lighthouse, with photographs taken in different light. This way I can get a better idea of the place.

Side Effects
Sometimes, publishing a postcard leads to getting a new one. I learned some facts of Ohio from this postcard, and a bit more from the present card.
Same with Tennessee!

Thursday Postcard Hunt | Irish Pubs
I have read that Irish pubs are very common around the world. Certainly, they are in my country! But, for once, it would be nice to visit a real one... in Ireland!

Hungarian Literature
![]() |
| Csönd. A bútorok csöndje (='Silence. The silence of the furniture') |
I like multiples on postcards, and I find this one very original. If I understand it, these are the silhouettes of different chairs belonging to famous Hungarian writers (or representing them?). Including Sándor Petőfi (1823-1849), who gives his name to the museum where the postcard was bought.
This stamp, issued to commemorate the bicentenary of the author, depicts one of his works: the epic poem János vitéz (='John the Valiant').
And I thought this label was also a sort of poem...
... but I copied it on an online translator and it gave: "A letter sent after the extension deadline or on a day of rest or public holiday."

Lighthouses from Germany
This port lighthouse stood on the head of the north mole, the entrance to the Geeste. In the night from August 17 to 18, 2022, the head of the north mole in Bremerhaven sagged and the lighthouse on it got into an extremely dangerous lopsided position. There was a risk that he would fall over completely, so the structure was completely demolished by the end of 2022. The tower is to be rebuilt true to the original as part of the new construction of the pier.
This is the Kleiner Preuße ('Little Prussian') lighthouse at the harbour in Wremen (North Sea). Actually, it is a replica of the original dismantled in 1930. The sender wrote that people can get married in the lighthouse.
Lighthouses on Lower Saxony's North Sea coast, including Helgoland, located on Germany's only offshore island. It was constructed during World War II as an anti-aircraft tower, and turned into a lighthouse in 1952.
The stamp was issued on 6 July 2023.
Postcards sent by Sabine, Hanna and Kathleen (Germany), through the Postcrossing site.
