Penny Penates

«The first postcard ever sent, addressed to Theodore Hook Esq, of Fulham, London in 1840, was sent by Theodore Hook Esq of Fulham, London. The hand-drawn picture on the card caricatures the postal service and it is thought that Hook sent it to himself as a joke (there was no internet in those days, people had to make their own fun). Hook's card is also the only postcard known to exist which has sent using the extremely rare Penny Black stamp. The postcard was sold at auction in 2002 for a record-breaking £31,750 to postcard collector Eugene Gomberg.»
James Ward, Adventures in Stationery

(Read more about it in Wikipedia. Pictures also taken from Wikipedia website.)

States Project | The Centennial State

According to this postcard sent by Bryon, Colorado is a true record holder: the tallest sand dunes in USA; the largest airport in the USA; the highest railroad, suspension bridge and town in the USA; the state with most mountains of 14,000 ft or more; the world's largest flat-town mountain... Wow!

States Project | The Natural State

This is the first postcard I got from this year Bryon's postal project, on 6 June. At the time I did not realise yet that it was part of another amazing project.

If you read yesterday post, you have a clue what it is about, haven't you? It seems that every postcard is sent for the capital city on every state, and it includes matching stamps (sometimes, the postal machines do not love vintage stamps!).

The postcards contains a lot of curious informations. For instance... Did you know that the World Championship Duck Calling Contest was a thing?
