Postcard arrived from Australia, no clue why the sender chose it, but I like the typography. I have no read this book.

Maxicard sent by Bryon (the USA), with different postmarks, showing the iconic Route 66. Just three days ago I wrote in a comment that I like these stamps, and yesterday this landed!

Five Blessings

I found online an explanation of the stamp:

The Chinese character "Fu" (meaning "blessing") is used to express people's longing for a happy life and their wish for a better future. Against the simple white background of the stamp, the four bats (the Chinese character for bat is the same as the Chinese character for blessing) combined with the golden character "Fu" in the middle of the stamp cleverly express the meaning of "five blessings come to your door".

Calendars | The Fortune Teller

I have been making some envelopes out of calendars this year. Here you can see the front and back of one of them, sent to Fabienne (France). I was not sure that it would arrive writing the address this way, but eventually it reached its recipient in no time.

Ink Project

I received this postcard from Bryon (the USA) on 4 April 2023. He wrote about this project: Japanese ballpoint artist Asuka Sato was curious about how much ink was in a Hi-Tec-C ballpoint pen, so she tested it out. In order to measure, she decided to see how many smiley faces she could draw before the ink ran out. It took her just six days to reach the answer: 29,249 smiley faces.

Inspired by her, I felt curious about how many postcards I would be able to write with a BIC Cristal pen: the first pen that comes to your mind when you think "a pen", probably the most used around here. 

I labelled the pen "only postcards" and made this page in my notebook. Every time I write a postcard with the pen, I fill a square on the page.

I know it would take more than six days. But, a year later... I have written more than 200 postcards, and there is still half of the ink left. Can you believe it?

I will keep you posted.

Austen's Letter to Her Sister

How cool is to write a letter on a (big) postcard? Laura (the UK) sent me this one, and I enjoyed the front as well as the back. And also that delightful calligraphy!

No. 13 – Queen's Square – Friday May 17th

My dearest Cassandra,

Well, here we are at Bath; we got here about one o'clock, and have been arrived just long enough to go over the house, fix on our rooms, and be very well pleased with the whole of it and our first view of Bath has been just as gloomy as it was last November twelvemonth. – We stopped in Paragon as we came along, but as it was too wet and dirty for us to get out, and at the bottom of Kingsdown Hill we met a gentleman in a buggy, who on minute examination, turned out to be Dr. Hall – and Dr. Hall in such very deep mourning that either his Mother, his Wife, or himself must be dead. – We are exceedingly pleased with the House; the rooms are quite as large as we expected. Mrs. Bromley is a fat woman in mourning, and a little black kitten runs about the staircase. – I have the outward and larger apartment, as I ought to have; which is quite as large as our bedroom at home, and my Mother's is not materially less. – The Beds are both as large as any at Steventon; and I have a very nice chest of Drawers and a closet full of shelves –. I hope it will be a tolerable afternoon; when first we came, all the Umbrellas were up, but now the Pavements are getting very white again. – My Mother does not seem at all the worse for her journey, nor are any of us I hope, tho’ Edw. seemed rather fagged last night, and not very brisk this morning, but I trust the bustle of sending for Tea, Coffee, and Sugar, &c., and going out to taste a cheese himself, will do him good. –

There was a very long list of Arrivals here, in the Newspaper yesterday, so that we need not immediately dread absolute Solitude – and there is a Public Breakfast in Sydney Gardens every morning, so that we shall not be wholly starved. – I like our situation very much – – it is far more cheerful than Paragon, and the prospect from the Drawingroom window, at which I now write, is rather picturesque, as it commands a prospective view of the left side of Brock Street, broken by three Lombardy Poplars in the Garden of the last house in Queen's Parade. –

Sunday Stamps | Calligraphy

Some stamps featuring beautiful calligraphy for today's Sunday Stamps:

French stamp designed by the (mail) artist Benjamin Vautier, aka Ben, and issued in 2011. It belongs to the series Les timbres de Ben:

The following Thank You stamps were issued in 2020. They were designed by the calligrapher Dana Tanamachi, who drew the original sketches by hand. The script is highlighted in gold foil.

The stamp below features the American writer Carl Sandburg, as well as his signature:

And to see the penmanship of another writer and artist, two stamps depicting Edward Lear's work: Edward Lear as a bird (Self-portrait) and a Cat from an alphabet book. This four-stamps set was issued in 1988.
