HitM | A Lot of Houses!

Janet (the USA) sent two hand-painted postcards for the project of Houses in the Mail. Very different styles, and nice colours!

She included some more on a bunch of ATC (A light-house counts, doesn't it?)

And even on the stamps. It must be an school, according to the message on the stamps. I love those cancellations, by the way.

I think it was the first time, or maybe the second, that someone included the word Africa in my address. Well, I guess it was the last, because I don't live in Africa any more...

It was a strike of luck that the letter arrived, because the post code was wrong (also my name, but usually that isn't any problem). And it took 17 days from the USA to Morocco.

She Is Not

The Last of England, 1860
Ford Maddox Brown (1821-1893)
The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK

Two postcards received from Laura (the UK) last November. She is not, of course... But in both cases, when I saw them, I thought of Little Red Riding Hood, don't you?

Strangely enough, they exist two versions of The Last of England. This one, reproduced on the postcard above. And other one, exhibited in the Birmingham Museums Art and Gallery, with quite different colurs...

The Potato Digger, 1912-15
Paul Henry (1876-1958)
Collection Ulster Museum, Belfast, UK

The Tulips Travel Slowly

It took me a while to upload the picture of this letter sent by Fabienne (France). But sure, less time that it took the letter to arrive...

It was posted on 27 March, and I found it in my postbox on 5 October. That must possibly be a kind of reverse record!

Anyway, it was a wonderful theme that included not only tulips (a catalogue!), but also nice stamps and postmarks. And, inside, some spring stamps (as it was intended as a spring letter!)and a postcard with this nice girl, who could easily be Little Red Riding Hood...

#AtoZChallenge | L is for Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood is a character I love. I had not seen this version by Fiep Westendorp until Heleen (the Netherlands) sent it to me in the shape of a postcard. The same illustration appears on the selvage of this wonderful (wonderful, wonderful!) sheet of stamps issued last year. Can you spot her?

And there is another version on the following postcard, also sent by Heleen:

But, besides Little Red Riding Hood, the Fairy Tale Wood, by Molly Brett (1902-1990) includes A LOT of fairy tales characters on one single illustration:

  • Puss in Boots
  • Hansel & Grethel
  • Cinderella
  • Snow White
  • The Twelve Swans
  • The Three Piglets
  • The Ugly Duckling
  • The Red Shoes
  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears
  • Petter Rabbit
  • The Chinese Nightingale (Thanks, Heleen! Again)
  • Sleeping Beauty (Thanks, Donna!)
  • The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs (Thanks, Phillip!)
  • The Golden Bird (Thanks, Eva!)
  • Dick Whittington and His Cat (Thanks, Anne!)
  • Saint George (Thanks, Anne!)
  • ...

  • Are other characters on the postcard that I have missed?

Fear Makes the Woolf Look Bigger

This is the postcard I sent to Germany, in order to participate in the mail art call about the Grimm Brothers. Of course, I had to choose this character...

    Mail Art Call: Brüder Grimm

Every time I think that I am not going to participate any more... I receive an attractive mail art call! Who could resist that theme? Especially if it has been delivered by flying fly, with a bonus lighthouse...

Fairy Tales on the Envelopes, Too

    Sent to Laura (the UK)

Actually, it is always a good moment to draw Little Red Riding Hood, Mr Woolf or other fairy tales' characters... For instance, on envelopes, to match the illustrations of this wonderful sheet of writing paper that I received as birthday present.

    Little Red Mail Carrier

Postcard received from Laura (the UK).

I hoped that this Super Little Red Riding Hood did not mind to stop saving lives for a while, in order to bring this letter to FinnBadger (the USA)... And she did! He published the envelope in his blog (with the rubber stamp I added in the last minute).

And sincerely I hope the designers of the postcard will not be mad at me!

    Little Red Riding Hood Variations

Another whimsical illustration from The Jolly Postman book sent by Bryon (the USA). And this one is showing a favourite character of fairy tales. Well, her granny. Well, not exactly.

But this Little Red Riding Hood is not the only who has landed on my mailbox lately. I have got two more versions:

Postcard sent by Heleen (the Netherlands). This little girl lives in Efteling.

Ângela (Portugal) drew this sweet mail carrier on her latest envelope. How cool is it?

    Chairs on Stamps

Not an easy theme for today's Sunday Stamps: Furniture.

Since I read some Heleen's posts (this and this) I wanted to publish the Hungarian chairs I have received myself, though maybe they are not new to most of you. This theme makes me curious.

I have also received another chair from the USA:

And two more chairs from Canada. This stamp was released on July 2014, and shows a work of photographer Lynne Cohen. (More information about these stamp)

The main subject in the last one (from the Netherlands) is not furniture but Little Red Riding Hood. But I decided that the beautiful chair and bed deserve a place in this post!

    I Can't Believe I'm Going to Morocco!

    Collage sent by Gina (UK).

I was not sure if this is a portrait or landscape collage (update: it was made as landscape, tough). But this stony bluecheesy woman caught my eye before the Reykjavik houses. And about the back... What do you think about this Postally Little Red Riding Hood (or not so little)?

She could not believe that she was flying to Morocco... And I can hardly believe that she has arrived safe and sound!

This is an amazing collage full of things I like. I was happy to find this stamp I was eager to receive, and even a cow...

    Go to the Nature!

    Sent to Richard (France).

The monthly link-up of uncustomary is about Nature. There is some ways you can reach the nature. You can take advantage of every little chance to enjoy nature. I hope Little Red Riding Hood did so and had fun in woods and she arrived safe and sound to Richard's place...

    Inspiration from Em's Den.

    Cow Envelopes

Envelope sent by John (the UK). Did you noticed the VQR bike and the beautiful stamp with Little Red Riding Hood?

And another cowcover sent by Richard (France):

Envelope sent by Ângela (Portugal). Isn't it wonderful?
