#AtoZChallenge | B is for Bank

Do you remember Naomi's challenge, the Thousand Postcard Project

Last week one of her vintage 1000 postcards, the number 171, landed in my mailbox. So she is in the way, just like... 800 to be sent. I wonder if she is going to receive 1000 postcards back.

Mine shows the new office of the Bank of West Memphis, Arkansas.

Come and see why we're called "Friendliest Bank in Town"

You cannot say it is not original... Or do you receive often postcards of banks? Which is the most original piece of mail that you have received/would like to receive?

  1. That's really unusual, never seen a bank on a postcard before! What I would like to receive would be a poetry postcard - honouring or commemorating a poet on their birthday or death anniversary for example. Or just as a 'famous people who lived in XYZ town' by the place they worked/lived at...never seen one of those either..

    1. These are nice ideas for postcards. I have received a few postcards with authors, and I like them very much. And also, for the second, take a look at these postcards: the first one is normal people from a country (I love this one!), and the second one, famous presidents from a region.

Thanks for you visit and your ideas!

    2. Wow, those are really interesting PC's! Thanks for sharing! I have seen the 'doors' concept as a poster, but not a postcard, very colourful and lovely.

  2. Why would a bank even want to be on a postcard? I always love bright colourful postcards with beautiful scenery so a bank isn't quite what I have in mind as one I'd choose while I was on holidays somewhere :)

    1. The postcards that Naomi is sending for her Thousand Postcard Project are vintage, and quite original. I think nowadays no back is making publicity through postcards. But it is also interesting to see how things have changed.

I think I wouldn't choose this one while I was in holidays. But maybe I would, if I was working there, or I had a HUGE amount of money in this bank ;-)

  3. Lovely theme Eva, unique and novel for me. We don't have much of the postcards culture here in India, but would love to get it started. I am already listing down what all places I would love to see on those in my mind.

  5. Getting fun snail mail from friends or family is rare these days. There was a time when I received frequent stacks of letters in my mail box through pen palling but several years ago I quit, keeping just a handful of my longest standing pals. Now, we only touch base once a year. I miss the regular flow of fun mail a bit but that's a chapter closed. I haven't gotten a postcard in many years. Somewhere in the house there is a small collection of vintage postcards my FIL passed down to our son from the mid-40s. Those are pretty neat! There could even be a bank postcard in the lot. I'll have to look for them to see now. :) Interesting post series. Thanks for sharing and happy A2Zing!

I invite you to stop by for more Art Sketching Through the Alphabet for today’s featured letter “B” (boys) and a side of Mewsic with Curious as a Cathy!

    1. I think it is difficult not to find some fun in every postcard. I must confess that I have received some really boring pieces of mail, maybe four or five in my whole life... but of course it depends on the point of view.

  8. I love the random nature of the subject. Like you, I'm amazed that Naomi is doing this. I really hope she does get 1000 in return...

  10. So where does one find a vintage postcard to send? I suppose you could find them in antique stores. I love the idea of sending postcards again with unique messages about authors and poetry, etc.

  14. I don't think I've ever gotten a postcard from a bank. Good for them for being creative.

    1. Creativity is not the quality that one would associate with a bank at first sight. But in this case, we can say that.

  17. When my sisters or close friends go vacationing, they send postcards. I've never received one from a bank, but I imagine the banks give them away to customers as advertising to get more customers. The last postcard I received was from the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk Virginia. The photo is of a 1996 video installation called Hamlet Robot, created out of really old televisions by Nam June Paik.

    1. It is hard to believe that banks offer something completely free... :)

How cool, your postcard. I like to send postcards from museums and exhibitions, too. But sometimes it is frustrating that they don't sell the postcard you need to send!

  25. Lovely, spacious, light architecture, don't you think? Most older banks were rather squat and purely functional.

Postcards were cheap ways to advertise. Oh, I'm telling my age or something, but I remember life in the country where the one bank had to go all out when there were suddenly two. The new bank sent postcards to say "hello, we want your business," and the old bank gave us red lollipops to compete. The furniture store sent them too when there were sales. I rather like this one.

    1. This is a nice building, indeed. Maybe now banks doesn't focus so much in architecture, but no doubt there are still nice exemples of interesting buildings housing a bank.

  26. I didn't receive it, but I found a ton of mail on the floor of an abandoned house and took home a letter from a mother to a daughter giving her advice. It was written in the 40s or 50s and is a treasure because of the voice.

  27. Hmmm...never had a postcard from a bank! That is certainly interesting! You know, there is a bookstore in Sidney-by-the-Sea, BC that has about a dozen boxes of vintage postcards, both blank and ones that have been written on and mailed. I love looking through these. They're not too pricey to buy if I remember right...
