Sunday Stamps | W(indmills)

Being windmills a favourite theme, it is not strange that I have chosen this word for W on Sunday Stamps-II...

These are the latest windmills I have got by snail mail: Achtkante Molen (Groot-Ammers), Oude Doornse Molen (Almkerk) and Broekzijse Molen (Abcoude), in the Netherlands.

Heleen integrated the stamps on a beautiful mail art envelope, as you can see...

And a Mediterranean windmill arrived from the island of Paros in Greece...

  1. That is a beautiful set of Dutch stamps! I like it how they are represented in a natural surrounding and it is not just the windmill itself shown.

    1. I agree; I like to see real pictures on stamps.

  2. 'Daar bij die molen' ('there at that windmill') is a famous (be it a kind of old-fashioned) Dutch song :-)

Thank you for posting, windmills are one of my favourite themes. And on my turn: I love the white mediterranean windmills!

    1. Thanks to you for sending those! That white windmills exist also in Spain (in Don Quijote's land). But in Mallorca island, for instance, are quite different.

  3. That Greek windmill certainly has a different style than the Dutch ones.

  4. Beautifully atmospheric photographs of the Dutch windmills. I've been to Paros and the white always looks beautiful under that particular Greek light.

    1. I've never been to Paros, but the picture could easily been taken in other Aegean islands I have been to... I love the effort of Hellenic Post of making such a beautiful stamp even for a low value.

    1. Where I was staying this summer (most of the days), we have a bar in one of those restored windmills. We could take a coffee with a stunning view, not very different from that on the stamp.

  6. To see the Dutch windmills is even better. Not many left in the UK now.
