States Project | Land of Enchantment

According to this postcard, New Mexico seems a very interesting place. From the UNESCO sites to the UFO museum. And the roadrunner being the state bird!

Five Blessings

I found online an explanation of the stamp:
The Chinese character "Fu" (meaning "blessing") is used to express people's longing for a happy life and their wish for a better future. Against the simple white background of the stamp, the four bats (the Chinese character for bat is the same as the Chinese character for blessing) combined with the golden character "Fu" in the middle of the stamp cleverly express the meaning of "five blessings come to your door".

States Project | The Garden State

Did you know that New Jersey is the "Diner Capital of the World"? That is certainly a title you can boast about!

(See here all the postcards from Bryon's States Project I have got so far!)

Sunday Stamps | German Composers

Fanny Mendelssohn (1805 – 1847), known as Fanny Hensel after her marriage and Clara Schumann, (née Wieck, 1819 – 1896) were German pianists and composers of the Romantic era.

Tomorrow's Mail Today

This is a reproduction of a vintage air mail label. I do not know the exact year this was issued, but the slogan began to be used in 1937: Receive tomorrow the mail you sent today, for only 3¢ more

Nowadays, I would become extremely happy if I got last month's mail!

Letter sent by Phillip (the USA).

Mail Drop

Yesterday, the second batch of mail in 2025 arrived. I am thinking of a new label for this blog entries: delayed.

States Project | The Granite State

Here we go with the "new" states of Bryon's States Project, which arrived all together last month, after that mail drought.

Thanks to this postcard, I have just learned that some of the most hated people in the world must be from New Hampshire: those who invented the alarm clock!

Drama (Revisited)

Usually, my postal drama is that I only get mail once or twice a month, while the mail I send usually reaches its recipients in a reasonable amount of time.

But in an unexpected twist, the Christmas postcard I sent my sister on 2 December 2024, arrived yesterday (20 January 2025): a journey of 49 days.

We live in the same town.

A Very Small Letter

Do you think this is a regular letter? It is not! The real letter was inside... and a very small one!

Sunday Stamps | Grouse

Today's theme in Sunday Stamps is Birds. I have quite a few in my collection, so today I chose two cousin birds from different countries, whose illustrations I really like.

Western capercaillie
(Tetrao urogallus)
Switzerland, 1968

Sharp-tailed grouse
(Tympanuchus phasianellus)
Canada, 2016

States Project | The Silver State

The States Project postcard for Nevada. I wonder why the state with the large gold mine in the USA is called The Silver State.

And I wonder, again... Why the mail monsters hate these flag stamps so much?

Thursday Postcard Hunt | Cave Paintings

This orange hind belongs to the Cave of Altamira, a cave complex in the Nort of Spain, renowned for prehistoric cave art featuring charcoal drawings and polychrome paintings of fauna and human hands. The earliest paintings were applied around 36,000 years ago.

In 1985 it was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The cave can no longer be visited, for conservation reasons, but there are replicas of a section at the site and elsewhere.

32,72 Km a Day

According to the Postcrossing stats, the average time travel of my postcards to Russia is 36 days. 100 days is quite a long time. It is as if this postcard had slowly walked to its destination, in a very relaxed way.

This is the postcard:

'
Relájate = 'Relax yourself'
Relaja te = 'Relax tea'

States Project | The Cornhusker State

The Nebraska postcard for Bryon States Project bears a curious postmark on the back, which indicates the day it was received by the postmaster. Can you appreciate it on the picture? (Now I understand this one!)
